I see my PCP in person every 3 months. Started in September and he suggested it. I have friends who have been successful with telehealth providers from Push Heath and Enbold. Other options for telehealth include JoinMochi, Sequence and Accomplish Health |
OP, my 12 year started it a couple of months ago after seeing a pediatric endocrinologist. by DS has a host of issues due to a genetic condition including metabolic syndrome (including elevated cholesterol and obesity). he has a well rounded diet and plays on numerous sports teams year round, so gets plenty of exercise. the endo was excellent at explaining to him (and me) why he is different and why there is not one size fits all for weight management because some of us are lacking in particular hormones, for which these meds compensate.
this obviously was approved for 12+ because the prognosis for obese children is pretty grim. there is a reason for this, and i applaud you for looking into it. i'm assuming that your child is on board? |
You are a lunatic OP injecting that poison into a kid |
The OP said her daughter was at residential treatment. You think three doctors will make. Obey if they prescribe her something that works!? OP you need to take her to a weight loss clinic. I go to nOVA physicians wellness center. Be prepared for insurance not to cover the Rx though. |
Oh the drama! You know obesity is the #1 risk factor for death. Noting more harmful than obesity. Especially a 15 year old! The OP is a good mother and is doing the right thing to save her daughters life. |
I took Saxenda. It does work. I was only on the tiniest dose and lost 17 pounds. However, I couldn’t tolerate a higher dose. It helps if you eat well on the drug not just smaller quantities of the junk food.
I wish your kid the best of luck. Screw the shamers . Human brains didn’t evolve to eat right in the food environment we have now. |
I agree. No suggestions on doctors, but keep looking until you find something. This and a gastric bypass are your only options moving forward to change the tide. The medicine would be far preferred and so much safer. |
Oy gevalt, nothing is more harmful than obesity?!? Tell that to the bipolar disorder that killed my brother. Tell that to the cancer that killed my husband’s brother. Tell that to the heroin that killed my DSD’s best friend. Tell that to speeding that killed our neighbor’s teenager. Tell that to the gun and abusive ex who killed my best friend’s sister. Me, I’m just a fat 51 year old who has outlived all of them. |
Oh yay, the Pain Olympics has started. |
This isn’t a competition. I’m sympathetic to all your losses but OP is focused on helping their kid and I applaud them for being proactive and seeking out additional support. |
Washington Center for Weight Loss. Dr. Rubino. I worked with her for the clinical trials of Wegovy. She doesn't take insurance, but she also doesn't take BS. After the study, she made sure I was first in line for when Wegovy was approved for weight loss. Office has a nutritionist on-site and other resources to keep you on the right path. |
Mounjaro is the 2024 BMW. Ozempic is more like the Camry—but maybe a 2019. Saxenda is like a 2005 Focus. |
After being on both, starting with Wegovy and currently on MJ, I feel like that 2.4mg Wegovy is Denzel Washington and MJ is Idris Elba. I'm not throwing either out of bed. |
Being a fat 51 year old after kids and menopause is much different than being an obese adolescent. Without medical intervention there is almost NO chance of ever being a healthy weight. I have been obese since I was about 8 years old and now because of Ozempic I am merely overweight. While the physical health toll and permanent damage of a lifetime of obesity is real, what is truly devastating is the psychological burden. I would guess there has not been a day in my life since I understood I was fat sometime in elementary school that I haven’t thought about my body and felt some kind of shame or grief about it. It stunted me emotionally, socially, professionally and romantically. I am a proponent of body- and fat-neutrality and believe no one should ever be treated poorly or differently for the size of their body. I will never stop defending the right of fat adults to exist in their bodies just as they are. But we simply have to intervene for children. They can decide once they are adults if they are okay existing in a fat body and all that comes with it. |
Straight FACTS! OP is trying to keep her kid from becoming a fat 51 year old and all that comes with it. It is a life filled with regret. |
