I think the preachy poster who falsely labelled me a Landon Republican and misguidedly ordered me to use spell check is a humorless pedant, yes. As such, I was sarcastically (I know, a bit adolescent) stating that she is not a great representative of the GDS parent body.

Silly me for assuming "right-winger" equated to "Republican." Very deft use of the fake apology to mask a renewed insult, though, PP--major style points! Here's my entry in the faux apology sweepstakes: Sorry I thought you were the humorless pedant when you were the thin-skinned name-caller. (And I hadn't even mentioned how the rest of town thinks GDS kids are druggies!)

OP, you might ask the school why the kids who were caught smoking dope on a GDS social service trip to New Orleans a couple of years ago received no discipline from the school. Relevant to the "limits" question, I'd say. But maybe the new 40 year old head of school with no prior head experience will tighten up on the drug use.

I know one of the kids -- there were sanctions (don't know all the details -- but there was a year-long probation in this kid's case, which seemed to mean that any new offense could be grounds for expulsion senior year) and reforms (re how to handle/whether to have trips like this).

Hmmm, I understand the new head was the preferred choice by faculty. Are you a dissatisfied GDS parent?

Re: the new head, people think he is a good guy but faculty assume the Board hired someone with no head experience so the Board and the parents in general will have added influence. Doesn't mean he can't be great, though--seems like a talented guy.
