GDS and limits

Anonymous
My DS will be attending GDS in the fall, and I am starting to get concerned about whether the kids have sufficient limits set on their work and behavior. We are fans of the school's mission and social values. But we aren't sure whether it is too permissive. Can current parents comment on whether they have felt its too permissive or whether there has always been appropriate limits set for the kids so they don't go off the rails?

I'm sorry, but it's the parents' job to raise their kids and the school's job to provide educational and related enrichment.

But isn't that why people send thier kids to private school so the parents can "check out" and talk about thier above average kids and how they hope to go to some great college?

Yes, but schools need to provide clear limits and expectations. If they don't, it is human nature to take advantage of situations where there is no clear authority or rules followed up by consequences.

I don't understand the snarky responses. Schools do have different approaches to setting limits and different cultures. This is absolutely a legitimate question. It has nothing to do with parents checking out. Parents aren't there during the school day.

GO AWAY TROLL

Why is it impossible for you to play nice in the sandbox?

isn't too late? There are no limits at GDS, kids go crazy in the hallways. Have you heard about Naked Tuesdays? And Psychedelic Wednesdays? Also, the mandatory gay and lesbian role reversal month?

Why is everyone being so nasty? There is absolutely nothing wrong with this question.

.... except, that it's a question by a troll

PP you are right, there is no need for the nasty comments. Probably some parents who are still hurt over the fact their DC did not get into GDS!

And it is trying to shift attention away from the debacle that is Landon.

OP, perhaps you could take a page from the book The Art of Subtlety --it possibly could do wonders for you and your out of control child.

We have many, many family friends whose children go to GDS and they would never write this absurd post. You are full of it.

If people are so sick of trolls they should petition Jeff to make this a must-register-to-post site.

Seriously, not everyone who posts a message you don't like is a troll.

OP,
What grade? Why the concern?
We know middle schoolers and high schools at GDS and several recent graduates and they are terrific kids.
