I doubt her homeowners would cover her full time babysitting but it's being professional. |
Take it. It sounds great. Don't bring up the camera thing, that's weird to say. |
It’s $15 per hour per family. If you consider that high for childcare I feel incredibly sorry for your nanny. |
What’s the plan if something goes wrong or your kid gets injured? I’d also be concerned that the arrangement could end at any moment since you don’t have a contract. I wouldn’t take my name off waitlists. |
I'd never higher a nanny. And, I'd never do what OP is saying |
Sounds great. And how rude of your husband to presume a woman should just do this sort of work for free because she “doesn’t need the money.” |
Those are valid concerns. I hope if my child is injured in her home she’d offer to pay medical expenses? I’m honestly asking what are your options if your child is injured at daycare or with a nanny in your home? They definitely have the money to pay for it. And if need be I’d guess we’d sue? |
Higher than what? I’m going to assume you own a home daycare and are angry people prefer situations like this. Home daycares have a bad reputation for a reason. I’ve seen licensed centers (both home and traditional) that I wouldn’t even send a dog to. |
This is closer to a nanny share than a nanny. $18 per hour per child (so $36 total) would be a good salary in that situation. If she was being paid for both kids it's equivalent to a $72,000 salary if she chose to work full time with no overtime. $550 a week is also more than 3 days at centers that have a 3 day option. I am the one who wrote what's above about it being just for fun. Now that I see it's per week, and that she has a lot of experience, I would worry less about that. I mean, of course she could still quit, but she knows what nannying entails, and she's asking for an appropriate rate. |
It sounds good and reasonable for nanny share pricing. Even if they are wealthy she should still charge what she is worth. |
OP also said the woman was prepping and providing homemade meals (2X) and snacks for her daughter. I assume that’s the extra $50 per week. OP, I’m very curious where you live? |
Hard pass. |
Definitely would try this! (BTW this is consistent with CA law - you never know who might be lurking 😉) |
That’s true. I am in CA. I guess childcare is just much pricier here than DC. I figured it would be the same. $550 is a deal to me for what we are getting. |
I mean $2,200 a month, most likely tax free, isn’t nothing. That is a pretty nice side hustle and it gives her kid a playmate as well. |
