Birthday girl was a jerk. My conversation with my DD would have gone:
"Susie was rude and a jerk. Who knows why she said what she said? She's not the first and won't be the last. You gave a thoughtful gift and if she doesn't like it, she's free to to throw them out. Though, we both know she won't." Then move on. This is something that will be quickly replaced by some other drama. But I'd also advise that "Susie has shown you what kind of person she is. I'm not saying cut her out. But remember it." And I'd caution how much to trust this girl going FW. |

I think it’s pretty easy to overcorrect with this stuff. If someone’s attitude is to walk away anytime someone offends them, then they can end up dropping friends over perceived slights instead of learning how to navigate friendships and social situations. It can be kind of dramatic. |
