Try reading. It was a collection of scented hand sanitizers and covers. The birthday girl likes them.

I don't think it's a bad gift, especially since the girl supposedly collects it.

Birthday girl was a jerk. My conversation with my DD would have gone:

"Susie was rude and a jerk. Who knows why she said what she said? She's not the first and won't be the last. You gave a thoughtful gift and if she doesn't like it, she's free to to throw them out. Though, we both know she won't."

Then move on. This is something that will be quickly replaced by some other drama. But I'd also advise that "Susie has shown you what kind of person she is. I'm not saying cut her out. But remember it." And I'd caution how much to trust this girl going FW.

The last thing you want is to imply as her mother that you stay with a friend who treats her like that. Nope, not okay, it's okay to wipe her hands and to walk away. Always have your dignity, and self-respect. You will run into other people in life who will treat you badly, and they will do it for as long as you allow it. Say no.

I think it’s pretty easy to overcorrect with this stuff. If someone’s attitude is to walk away anytime someone offends them, then they can end up dropping friends over perceived slights instead of learning how to navigate friendships and social situations. It can be kind of dramatic.
