This is true for me. I have cut back so much and buying cheaper stuff because everything is ridiculously high. I miss Trump.

Trump’s trade and tax policies are directly responsible for inflation.

It's been happening frequently to me at Whole Foods recently.

Yup. All the WF light sour cream on the shelf had expired 2 weeks ago. This is the 2nd time this has happened and I asked them to remove it. I check all expiration dates and pull from the back.

This is nothing new. I remember returning an expired dairy item years ago and then running into the employee putting it back on the shelf while I was shopping. I was stunned. But now I realize selling expired or past date items is commonplace. I’m really good about checking dairy, eggs and meat but often forget to check other items. It’s not at all unusual to discover the ketchup or crackers we just opened are past their date. And even when I check dates, the bagged salad greens are alway icky long before them.

BTW, I returned them to Giant and suggested they check the shelf for more expired boxes of them. But they didn't seem to really care.

Hard to believe such a processed food would be rancid after 2 months

NP. It’s not like the Teddy Grahams were fresh off the belt. They were probably a year+ old.

I’ve noticed this happening at Wegmans. Not expired, but clearly really old stock that they previously would have pulled or discounted heavily.

lol how's that? Isn't it exhausting to keep saying Trump is to blame for everything this many years later?

The prices are so high out there already too they are not pulling these off the shelf at either Giant and Harris Teeters. Just be aware to check the dates on the food you are buying no sense in overpaying for expired food.

This is so disgusting! Never shopping at Giant or HT again.

I noticed this when I moved to the DC area pre pandemic, more grocery stores here leave expired food on the shelf,
Instead of marking it down.

I've just had to take extra time to look at the dates, even when I do curbside pickup I have to check before I put things away so I use the ready to expire stuff faster.

Stores aside, vendors are short dating or sending stuff with short dates to retailers because it’s been sitting at their warehouse, with the typical COVID labor excuses.most stores don’t have enough storage to end up with expired goods, though the problem could be their distribution centers.

I always check dates and conditions before I buy. I’ve been burned with things like deli meat weeks over date, or things set to expire in the next day or two.

Shopping at Costco would prevent the issue. All the food was put there the previous night or same day. Especially things like milk.

Not true. They do not sell out the whole store each day.

I made this mistake last week at my normal Giant. I usually check the dates but was distracted and grabbed the first gallon of milk in the row. Last night my kids asked why it tasted like pickles and I realized it was already expired! My fault for not noticing but usually the milk has another few weeks on it before I buy it.

That's crazy. Usually milk has fast turnover. For milk to sit there for weeks and expire in the fridge at the store is nuts.

I always check as I'm shopping, I thought everyone did!

I've noticed more sour cream, processed meats, and even canned goods being expired on shelves lately at the big supermarkets. Our Target is bad. I've had better luck at Aldi.
