| Giant in VA will tell you flat out it's not against the law to sell expired food and they DO NOT pull it. |
It’s been like this for years. Guess you just noticed now. |
| Target...Giant...Safeway. All I'm seeing are stores for poor people. Shop at Harris Teeter and this will not happen to you. |
| Safeway never had quality control. They've been selling expired items, forever. I always check the expiration date and once picked up an item that expired 2 years ago. Have not had that issue at Harris Teeter, yet. Speaking of expensive, in Oakland, 1 bottle of Sriracha is 24.99! |
Can you read? OP said this was at Harris Teeter.
|
| I think some of this is that they don't have enough workers to look through the labels and get rid of it. |
Most of those expiration dates are artificial and unrelated to food safety. https://www.nytimes.com/article/expiration-dates.html You should get a discount, though. |
I'm just not sure they even care really. |
|
Even the non-perishables. I bought some Teddy Grahams at Giant, and as soon as I opened the package it smelled rancid. I checked the date and they had expired two months before. So there may be some truth to these dates, even though I know some food is fine past them.
BTW, I returned them to Giant and suggested they check the shelf for more expired boxes of them. But they didn't seem to really care. |
| Yeah, you especially have to be careful of items that are on sale. For example I was going to stock up on a certain type of chips my kids like because they were on sale but only bought one bag because the expiration date was so near. |
It's been happening frequently to me at Whole Foods recently. |
Hard to believe such a processed food would be rancid after 2 months |
This is true for me. I have cut back so much and buying cheaper stuff because everything is ridiculously high. I miss Trump. |
I guess I’m poor, because I think all of those stores are too expensive. |
I think richest neighborhood supermarkets get the best and freshest products. What do you think? |
