Referencing former coaches from the past two years, the email was sent to the school’s current cheerleading coach, Jillian Domenech, shortly after she took over the position in March, as first reported by WTOP.

What in the world?

Strange message. Sounds very odd. And, a racist would likely use a different word from "colored." Have there been problems with this team?

Man, some people will do anything to avoid admitting to racism.

Why is it oakton hs that always has the scandals???. Band bus incidents, tasers in the locker room, and car crashes. Their culture needs some serious fixing

The entire letter is terrible but what kind of idiot parent thinks high school cheer is so important in the scheme of a lifetime. “ Our fear is that the history of Oakton cheerleading will be tarnished and remembered with conversations of ‘peoole’ who destroyed something that so many people worked hard for. “
History of cheerleading tarnished 😂
This is such a white mom thing to write.

And “alumni cheerleaders”? They don’t have anything better going on to concern themselves with this???

No. This is not. It might be someone from long ago. Very confusing letter. Almost sounds Smollett to me.

So by this reference to “Smollett,” you’re implying that the Black cheerleading coach wrote this fake letter to garner sympathy???

DP, but I agree something is off about that email. The language is too flowery about tarnishing the reputation and the reference to dark features is bizarrely racist. Plus the cheer team is terrible, so there's no reputation to save. The dance team is the star of games.

Something is rotten about the whole thing. I wonder if they're bluffing about the investigation to make the sender sweat.

I think it’s a horrible email that should be broadcast out to demonstrate what might be living within the Oakton community. I am glad they tried to figure out who sent it. I do not think we need a third party investigation. I am sad to see that Dr. Reid caved to Sujatha Hampton and the local NAACP on this one. They have a history of pushing other decisions that make no sense and have a few board members in their pocket. We do not need Dr. Reid to cave to them, too.

My kids go to Oakton and it seems normal enough. No clue why they seem to have these things in the press. Is it just that other schools have similar that don't get press?

I do question why the cheer team has had two coaches in two years--and I think in 2021 the coach quit mid way thru the season. A friend has a kid on the team and never said anything negative but maybe I never asked the right questions.

How much is this going to cost?

You know nothing. As someone who does some forensic work like this, the vast majority of emails can be tracked. The question is how clever was the writer in covering their tracks. If they were really good and knew what they were doing, they could cover their tracks and the trail will end in a dead end. I'd say the vast majority, well over 98% of messages are not sent by people who can do that. And most of the public will not be able to cover their tracks. So, with a reasonable electronic forensic team, they can find the origin.

And then what? Prosecute for a mean email? It was classless and wrong, but a full-fledged investigation is a lot.

If it was a student they will suspend the student and that kid will be booted from Cheerleading.

The article is poorly written but what I get from the article is that there have been some issues with some kids on the Oakton Cheerteam and a kid or a Mom is blaming the outcome of whatever is happening on the fact that the Coach was Black and is disappointed that another Black coach has been hired.

I have no clue if the kid who took the picture of the Coach talking with Cheerleader was worried that the other Cheerleader was going to beat them up or the Coach. It sounds like a weird connection to make, that particular incident with the letter that was sent after that Coach left the team.

I am guessing the meeting was poorly attended because 1) Parents and Cheerleaders didn’t like the old Coach 2) Knew they didn’t send the email and didn’t feel like being lectured 3) Knew they didn’t send the email but agreed and didn’t feel like being lectured or 4) Knew they sent the letter and didn’t want to be lectured.

OK, I read the article. It's clear there was a deliberate effort to oust this coach, perhaps because she was firm in dealing with drama inside the team. Maybe the sender of the email used racism to push her out. The coach ended up leaving because she was so upset.

Isn't there an anti-racism group who can pay for investigative computational forensics to identify the sender? The FBI does it all the time. There are private data companies who are paid to do this.

Actually all we need is a GoFundMe. I'd certainly contribute! We need to name and shame the sender. Who knows, maybe it's the Principal! Apparently the school administration did not support the coach in her attempts to discipline some team members...

What are you talking about? Coach resigned last season after an unrelated incident with a cheerleader. The email in question was sent to the new coach.

No. I'm implying that someone wrote it to stir things up. The whole email is extremely odd. There's drama behind this, and I don't think it is limited to a racial issue. But, racial issues always get attention.

Something is off about this email. I live in Vienna and my kid did cheer a few years ago and was injured and the main concern is to have a coach that promotes a safe environment. I've never heard a parent discuss views like this ever. This looks like the email was sent to make the parents look racist. If someone did have these views, what would be the point of sending this email to the new coach.

Well. I hope that if they do figure out who sent it that they make it public. I suspect it won't turn out the way some expect.

Why does Dr. Reid need to cave to the white liberal masters that run the local NAACP? They are the likely authors of the email.

It's probably because the writer used Chat gpt or some other AI tool to write the email

Strange message. Sounds very odd. And, a racist would likely use a different word from "colored." Have there been problems with this team?

I doubt whoever reported on this quoted the term used verbatim

How do you track an email sent from a protonmail or ****.li (you probably know what I'm talking about) address?

I think they would have used ***had it been a different word.
