Why does this forum attract so many people who hate pets?

Anonymous
You do know about the recent topics tab, right? That when you post about your pets, it shows up there?

I will say, though, that it’s not just the Pets forum. There are people being intentionally cruel all over DCUM.

I can’t count how many times I’ve been told I’m unlovable and pathetic because I have two dogs and no children.

I’m not overly sensitive about such comments (because I know they come from unhappiness), but I will avoid DCUM if I’m feeling especially vulnerable.

So here’s the thing. Lots of people don’t want dogs places they don’t belong and think it’s a loser move to act like having a dog is the same as kids. Plenty of people think pit bulls are dangerous. People just aren’t saying these things out loud. When I talk about doing stuff with family on the weekends and a colleague tells me their weekend was spent hanging out with their dog, I smoke politely but inside I think, wow, sad.

Because why they have the pet and what they do to the pet is not for the pet, but for them.
I had no right to turn wolf into a chihuahua.

All of that….has nothing to do with what I said.

DP- PP, it's you who makes me sad. Why the need to judge? I have both kids, who I love to death, and dogs, and let me tell you, a weekend with just my dogs sounds like heaven. People's lives take different paths, and having kids isn't for everyone for many reasons. It could be that they don't feel prepared to be parents, which is laudable, it could be infertility, lack of a partner, or some other reason you don't know about. I have a childless friend who had three miscarriages and a very scary ectopic pregnancy, and yes, her family includes a beloved dog.
Why do you think that having kids makes you superior to the "sad" people who don't?

Hate pets? No. Hate many irrational pet owners who are overly entitled and allow their animals to behave terribly in public? Yes. Hate rescue-at-all-cost diehards who want to save every pitbull out there? Yes.

It's usually the people that are the problem.

I get it OP. I agree with PPs on bad owners but I will say I report a LOT of stuff here that is appalling. (Razor blades in tasty food, how to poison a dog with rat poisoning, etc.)

I am sorry but a dog is not one’s family. I have lots of friends that don’t have kids and have very full and interesting lives. I feel bad for those who use dogs as substitutes for children. It is very sad.

I have children and I also have a dog. I love my children more than anything in the world but that doesn't take away the adoration I have for my dog -- and vice-versa. My dog makes me incredibly happy.

Because many people including pet owners (and I am one) are seriously tired of jerks like this who think rules and public etiquette don't apply to them.

Seems like many on DCUM don’t like kids either. Or family members.

And yet on the occasion that I pop over here because -- surprise! I love pets! -- it seems like it's all complaining and kveching by people who hate all forms of pets.

Just saying.
Stop complaining!
