I have ZERO clue what the hell this response is supposed to mean. Signed, NOT OP |
| You need to follow the camp procedures. You (not your child) will likely need to give the medication to the camp nurse or they will have you order the med through a specific pharmacy and all meds will be delivered directly to the camp. |
I love that people are like "who cares" and "everyone is on it" -- that doesn't mean every person wants everybody to know their business. Many people are private and that is their right, and why we keep medical information protected. For numerous reasons. If I have cancer, I might not want everyone to know that I have cancer, even though many people out there also have cancer. The logic is flawed. By this rational, disclosure of all kinds of things should be normalized since others also experience it. Respecting one's privacy is important. |
| A camp nurse would keep any medication confidential. |
Most sleepaway camps have someone who dispenses medicines and they are very strict about kids not self-dispensing. |
| The camp needs to know about, and administer, all medications for many reasons including if there is an emergency they need to be able to tell the ER what meds the kid has taken. |

OP - What age child are you talking about? My teenager did a 1-week sports camp with her team last summer. I asked the coach what the protocol for medications was (without specifying the med). Coach said ask the camp director. Camp director said ask the coach. I told my daughter to set a timer on her phone so she remembered to take them every day.
Two years earlier, she did a real sleepaway camp and we were required to have the camp nurse dispense meds. My daughter said there was a line at the infirmary every morning. No one asked or cared what anyone else was taking. |
OP responded in the middle of a response so the whole thing is running together. |
| My son takes an anti psychotic and he gave it to the nurse. He told one kid who asked that it was for ADHD. |
This is correct answer OP. My mom was a call nurse. You have nothing to worry about I promise. Not one other person will know what med your kid is taking and most often, that they’re taking a med as often they’re administered at free time. Your kid doesn’t even have to say “it’s an allergy pill”. At most he’ll say “oh I was taking medicine with the nurse”. Nobody will ask. I get your concern, OP. |
