BABY J IS SO GOOD

I don't think any of them are now keen to abuse coke and pills. He makes it funny because he's a comedian. But he makes clear how bad things were and that he needed help.

Let your 15 year old watch it. We all glorified rock stars and were excited by drug references we didn’t even understand. You can’t really stop a little teenage fascination with the dark and fast side Just counteract any glam and glitz by showing those famous before, during and after photos/mug shots of addicts. Focus on tooth loss, that’s something most mc/umc children can’t imagine.

I would not expose a young kid to the lesson that you can succeed professionally on drugs. That they are cool or popular. And that you can recover and all is forgiven.

I loved his SNL skit where he dances at the church with the fan. Will need to check out this special.

The bit about buying the Rolex actually had me LOLing. The segregation of metals! The trumpet on a radiator! The brother’s stump! Hysterical.

My take is that he’s kind of a jerk (like most comedians IRL) and that I really didn’t like him before rehab and all that. When he had that very public crash, I was like, aha! Watching his new special I found that I like him more now. He is really a huge narcissist and the humbling aspects of drug addiction that he makes funny make him more likable for me.

I think stand-up is tough and sometimes you can’t reclaim the magic you had when you were young and hungry. Case in point ( for me): Sebastian Maniscalco

Ew yeah. Totally agree! Now he’s just cringe for me.

I f*#ing love stand up though and will watch with awe anyone attempt it. And kind of want to have sex with any of them! So insanely sexy and powerful as an art form.

You wouldn't let a 15 year old watch it? How about 16? 17?

He's the best dressed comedian I've seen.

Agree - I kept thinking he looked weird, figured it was an aging thing.

I'd rather if he doesn't talk about his wife/girlfriend, honestly. Doing that previously has ultimately caused him a lot of problems. It's okay not to make drama about every single thing, especially when there's a kid involved. He's funny without it!

I'm the PP who was worried about showing this to my 14 year old. I said almost-15 but actually they're just a few months into 14. I'm getting absolutely blasted by my kid but I think for now we will hold off. I'm not sure what I'll say when we do watch it together (especially about how it makes clear that some of the other specials must have been done high on cocaine), so if folks have advice for that I'm all ears!

I love messy gossip, but I don't think he'll ever speak openly about that. That timeline was so shady.

I didn't love this special, but that might be because a lot of the bits were rehashed from his Seth Meyers and SNL appearances.

Tendler's eccentric, Plath-like Instagram weirds me out. They seemed like a very bizarre couple.

We watched with my 13 year old but not 9 yr old. I was ok with it because we were at home and could sidebar. I would not have been pleased to take him to that show in person with no opportunity for those conversations.

We talk about drugs regularly and I share whenever someone overdoses, or when a song/movie comes on with so many who have od’ed. And that it seems fun initially but not when you get sucked in so best not to ever start.
