my 5 yo gets up by himself every morning but he comes into our room and snuggles with me. I wont get up before 630 and he knows that now so he can snuggle until then and if he gets up earlier, he has coloring/books/stuffies in his room to play with, and he can pee/get dressed/brush his teeth by himself if he wants.
Dad is an earlier riser- before 545 so on weekends they get up together. We also rotate sleeping in on the weekends although my DHs version of sleeping in is 730/8am and then watching the news for an hour whereas I can sleep until 11am still. We do not allow our son to eat or be downstairs solo. If we are both feeling lazy or ill, we have a TV in our room and we've previously let him go get snacks from his snack drawer and watch TV in our room until one of us is feeling better/alive. He would absolutely open the door and take the dog for a walk or go outside and play or if our neighbor was out go out the garage and say hi left to his own devices. He's an extroverted morning person so we had to enforce not being solo in the morning.

| My kids were up by 6:30 before they started school and now I have to pry them out of bed at 7:30. They have a strict 7:30 bedtime. |
Well isn’t that special |

For school or on weekends?
On weekends probably 5? My kid could get up and either play in his room or go to playroom and turn on TV. He knew he wasn’t allowed downstairs till we were up but we have a little fridge in the playroom where he could grab snacks and a drink. For school. Ha. 12 and still having to pry him out of bed. |
| I left graham crackers plates and juice boxes on the dining room table starting when my oldest was 4 |
+1 I have a night owl / late riser since he was small. We just get up when he does and often before. |
| My 7.5 year old can do what she wants, but won’t go downstairs without us. She reads in her room until 7:00 or 7:30 then one of us gets up with her. She would have been trustworthy by age 5-6, but we don’t really do TV so there’s no incentive for her to venture downstairs. |
| 4. They go down, grab the remote watch their favorite show, or find their IPad. |
