| A number of the ones named so far have reputations for being difficult or mentally ill. |

NP. Don't even care about Hartnett then ended up idly clicking the link and reading that whole piece. He sounds like he realized he needed to exit acting for a time to keep his sanity and not go down the wrong road personally, and has returned to acting with a lot of maturity. Impressive. Also re: "next big thing," that's someting ginned up by press agencies, managers, studios, etc. Many of those "next big thing" young actors still act or otherwise work in the industry and seem to be doing just fine, if you look them up, like Hartnett. The ones who are actually talented and/or well-trained and seriously trained will keep working, just not in such a spotlight glare. Others who aren't really very talented at the acting part do still bob up occasionally in stuff and seem rather hungry for their youth and the attention they got (Lindsay Lohan comes to mind). |
In terms of movies, true, but her Netflix series was a big hit and headed for season 3. |
She's a character actor who never fit the pretty ingenue mold. She's done pretty well actually, has worked steadily just not in big flashy roles. Not sure she even was after those though. |
I thought it was well known that he's a dick. |
I will see you Hartnett and raise you Freddie Prinze Jr. |
Sean Young was nuts and tanked her own career through a series of bizarre things she did to try to get the Catwoman role in the late '80's. https://www.thethings.com/sean-youngs-bizarre-audition-cost-her-the-role-of-catwoman/ |
An actor you don't even know the name of was supposed to be the Next Big Thing. |

Sam Worthington
Leslie Bibb |
Leslie Bibb was never supposed to be the next big thing. She was in the Soft Lips ads in Seventeen, and then waaaay later she was the reporter who banged Iron Man. End of list. |
Seriously? They were all pretty hack actors. |
They had a huge platform that should have propelled them forward—especially MPG and TAT. |
