I hate Libby

They just « repossess » the book.

You just can’t imagine how that makes some of us feel.

Most libraries don’t charge overdue fees anymore, but you do still have to show up to return stuff.

I love Libby. I used overdrive a long time ago and didn’t like it as much. It sounds like they made lots of improvements now but I just never looked back once switching to Libby. My husband prefers overdrive because he doesn’t want apps on his phone and once he learned overdrive he had no patience for learning a different system. But getting back to Libby, it is super easy to use once you get used to it. As mentioned multiple times above you can do all that you wish except perhaps requesting a book. Libby saves me hundreds a year since I’m an avid reader. I hope it never goes away because I literally am on it daily!

I am procrastinating on switching to Libby. I listen to audiobooks all the time and have been using overdrive to download the audiobooks to my MP3 player. From what I have read about Libby, there is not a way to download to an MP3 player. So this past couple of months I have been checking out a whole bunch of audiobooks from my library and transferring them to my MP3 player.

I listen to audiobooks while washing the car, pressure washing the driveway, doing yard work, etc. I don't want to risk ruining my phone while doing all that wet messy stuff. I would rather risk ruining my $40 MP3 player.

After I learned a couple months ago that Overdrive is going away, I bought a 64 gig SD card for my MP3 player. I have learned that an audiobook seems to take about 1/3 of a gig, so I now have plenty of memory available to download audiobooks.

Your airbuds will work with your phone quite far away. I put on an audiobook and do housework all over the house wearing my earbuds. I'm sometimes in the basement with my phone on the second floor. No issues.

Sometimes my connection seems to go out when I'm in the opposite corner of a one story ranch.

I am seriously procrastinating on switching to Libby! I know my time is running out.

I want to stay on Overdrive. I don't like Libby.

I have used airpods in two one bedroom apartments - my last one was very in a old building and had a weird choppy layout (but was well under 500 sq feet) and my airpods would cut out if I left my phone in my bedroom and went to the kitchen.

My library doesn't charge overdue fees anymore, but they DO charge if you put a hold on a book and don't pick it up within a certain number of days (I want to say either 3 or 5?).

Borrowing ebooks is so much more convenient - I'll never go go back!

I do all of my ebook management on the Overdrive website and really feel in the minority reading this thread! That said, I only read on a Kindle, so I haven't needed the Overdrive app to date. Also, the book is on my phone in the Kindle app, so if I would want to read my book on the phone, I can.

I am most disappointed that the Recommendations function will no longer work on the Overdrive website and I will have to do that through Libby, which I've installed on my phone. I don't understand why that one function can only be done in the app vs website.

To those with multiple library cards, how do you have time to read everything? I would have books coming in all over the place. I will never make it through my evolving holds, purchased recommendations, and many, many, many page wish list as it is with my current Fairfax County access. The last thing I need is another library's books! Ha--wonderful problem to have. Too many books, not enough time!

I wish my library (Loudoun) would get more books in a digital form.

Those using the Montgomery County system, I believe Overdrive ceases to work on 5/1/23.

I live in Fairfax but also use Prince William overdrive. I find out upcoming releases from authors I like and recommend those books to the library, sometimes months in advance! I often get the books on their release day. I’m disappointed that I won’t automatically be added to the waitlist on Libby.

Also if I have current recommendations (nor holds) do I have to redo them on Libby?

Write them and tell them so. Part of it is budget related. Publishers are charging a ridiculous amount for e-books and limiting the licenses available to libraries.

It ends on that date for everyone nationwide.
