How difficult is it to get into a sorority at a Big 10, SEC or ACC?

I know a young woman from an exburb in NYS that got into a sorority at Bama this past fall as a freshman. She is blonde, tall & thin. I don’t know if this is a “top” sorority.

And if your daughter would be upset by having only one house she doesn’t like mid-week, I’d reconsider participating. The SEC in particular is all about who you know in the house. No connections means you go to the catch-all house. This is fine for some girls and devastating to others, depending on where they grew up.

It’s not even that simple at all.

They might get A house. But they will likely not get one of the 10 houses they want to actually join. They have to have older girls lobbying for them. Without that, they fall through to the least desirable house. Depending on the kid, this might be okay. Or it might ruin their freshman year.

You can’t make generalizations between colleges like that. Every sorority is completely different at every college. There are plenty of colleges where Theta is the bottom sorority.

Never even heard of Theta. Is it a Southern Sorority? Did not have that at my school.

If you're thin, have long blonde hair and a fake tan you may get past the first round in a "top" sorority. It's a horrible process. I know a girl who went through rush this year and was traumatized by how superficial it was. I personally don't understand why anyone would subject themselves to that kind of humiliation.

Keep this in mind when you say "pretty" - a mid-Atlantic/NE 10 is an SEC 6.
I'm a native of one of these Deep South states and my DC friends have no idea. Southern "pretty" is an entirely different level. For the top houses You have to be southern gorgeous, rich, nice, AND well connected to current members. Being a legacy helps, but isn't enough.

This is one of the reasons I didn't go to my state flagship, my mother and aunts didn't have any sorority affiliations. Without a legacy hook I never would have made it into a sorority.

Legacy doesn’t even help anymore. Too many. It’s all about connections with girls actively in the house lobbying for you during rush.

Uh, there are other majors there besides CS and Engineering. It’s a cultural mashup of wealthy Chicago suburbanites, some city kids, rural kids, internationals, OOS, and benighted Berwynites-Ciceroites-Waukeganites-Peorians

Um, Kappa Alpha Theta? One of the biggest in the country? 140+ chapters? They’re in the South e.g. ‘Bama, Auburn, NC State
