Where are your seniors in their decision making process?

Final two are BU and UMD for CS. Program strength and parents (politely) scream UMD. Son enamored with Boston.

Don’t turn down UMD CS, it’s a bargain even OOS

I get where your kid is coming from re: Boston but he needs to recognize the strengths and ranking CS@UMD

He can get internships etc in Boston

That's EXACTLY what we told him. Appreciate the confirmation.

Aren't there tech internships around UMD? I'm in tech in Maryland. seems like that would be a great option as well.

Applied 3 EA.
In to 3.
Committed to the 3rd EA that came in.
Final decision made by late Dec.
Pulled 3 remaining apps.
Good fit. Happy kid.

DD is down to 2 schools. Did admitted student day at one yesterday and another in the next week or so. She is pretty happy with her choices.

PP was referencing student's fondness of Boston. Go to school at UMD, intern in Boston.

Mine is totally overwhelmed. He did great with the process - was accepted at 3/5 top choices and is frozen. Won't even go through his list yet to decline the offers at safety schools! I don't know how to make him snap out of it.

Got into 5/6 and can knock out two. That leaves three and I suspect he will be deciding on May 1!

DD applied to 14 schools. We can only afford one. Decision is made (in my mind). Can someone please call her to bring her down to planet Earth and just accept that amazing offer already?

Are you doing revisits? Are they talking the decision through with friends? Feeling settled already?

Senior applied EA to several schools - got into all of them except one where was deferred. Fell in love with one of EA schools during early 2023 visit so withdrew deferred application and put down deposit at school in January. Has been stress-free ever since. Highly recommend Early Action (Early Decision is nice if you can afford sticker price and have a top choice - but not many can make that plunge). At the very least it's nice to have a couple back ups that your kid likes in case they don't get into dream school.

My kid did this to every school who offered it and I too expected to be done months ago. I was not mentally prepared for the bulk of the apps turning into deferrals and having to wait until RD for a decision.

+1 And also assumed incorrectly that there wouldn’t be merit if deferred to RD. Had to put that one back up on the table and trying to figure out scheduling a visit when we had already booked out April. A good problem to have though.

We’re down to 4, but really 2. Visiting both again this week. I’m excited to get this over with. Applications were submitted in Oct and I’m surprised still no decision. Not much communication and seems a bit frozen, although I suspect the decision is getting close.
