Exactly what I would say.

Are you me? Except I grew up in the Chicago suburbs.

Shake and bake chicken, rice a roni, canned corn.

Meatloaf and jello salad?

I can't tell from your post if you're trying to make fun of yourself by providing a White Suburban dinner?

Is the idea that your worldly DC city friends will think its funny to come to the suburbs and eat an old-school suburban white-person dinner?

Hamburger Helper, served with some kind of vegetable like canned corn, those take-and-bake rolls, giant glasses of milk for the kids, jug of wine for adults.

If it's tuesday, you can do taco tuesday. Buy the taco shell kit from old el paso but don't add the spices to your ground beef. Put out some mild salsa, daisy sour cream, shredded lettuce, black olives, and chopped tomatoes for topping.

I also think a giant bucket of takeaway fried chicken along with the sides (mashed potatoes, red beans and rice, corn) might work, too.

Takeaway?
dying…. 😂

Shhh that poster needs to use the word 'takeaway" to emphasize that she's not like those people whose food she's talking about...

what other word would you use? or are you saying just use “fried chicken” without the qualifier? genuinely confused (and am a NP)

NP. Takeout.

Also, carryout.

Anything my MIL makes for dinner? She's an absolute gem of a human being, but man, the culinary range is so limited. Vegetables are served steamed until they can barely retain their form, tossed with margarine. White bread. Salt is the only seasoning, and even that is used sparingly. It pains me.

I truly thought this was going to be a post about what SAHMs in white SUVs make for dinner. So disappointed.

Who cares, they’ll just make fun of you anyway.

The ultimate white suburban dinner is Chicken Marbella. Get yourself a copy of the Silver Palate Cookbook.

That is a dish I never want to see/eat again

Chicken Marbella!!! Totally!!

A few others from that time period - some weird chicken dish with baked boneless skinless chicken with mushrooms and Swiss cheese. Really bland stir fry served with minute rice.

Have to have summer sausage and port wine cheese with cocktails. Wine spritzers or coolers. Key lime pie for dessert.
