When I lived in both a small condo complex and large apartment tower in Alexandria, at least half the residents’ cars had Maryland or DC tags. That’s incredibly common here. |
If you're a renter, wouldn't you do the reverse? Rent an apartment in FCPS where schools are better? Especially since some of the stronger schools in FCPS actually have some less expensive rental apartments within their boundaries? |
FACTS. "Remember the Titans" is a very big deal for some people. They want the "clout" of saying they went to that school. ![]() |
FC is more expensive #1, #2 they want the best of both worlds and to be closer to their families in DC and MD. |
Literally go drive around ANY apartment complex in Alexandria and you will see more than half of all the plates with DC or MD tags. They are skirting around the personal property taxes too. |
I still don't understand this. We go to swim lessons next to TC Williams, or whatever the new name for that HS is, and there are always a ton of MD plates picking up kids there. I thought Maryland had better schools than Alexandria? I find it so bizarre |
Some families have parents living in separate household across the bridge, or even grandparents helping out. And the reality is not everyone gets around to updating their car registration after they move to VA. We had a caretaker that helped with school pick ups and she was a MD resident. Some people really love making assumptions and jumping to conclusions just based on car tags. Sheesh! |
Automobile taxes are cheaper in Maryland. |
There is no personal property tax in Maryland. |
MoCo and HoCo have better schools, but anyone coming from just over the bridge would be Prince George's schools, which are not necessarily better than ACPS. |
DCUM is firmly of the opinion that school choice for all is a republican plot; school choice should instead be reserved for the righteous, who need not care about the law. |
Perhaps people should instead focus on reporting people not paying property taxes. |
Oh not at all- plenty of neoliberals like “school choice” too, for the same reasons: it helps them and their buddies get rich at the expense of public schools. |
The thing is, you don’t know someone’s full family or household situation just by the license plate on their car. Neighbors reporting neighbors for these perceived infractions is pathetic. |
Some of those folks are military and doing it 100% legally (to the letter if not the spirit). My recommendation is to go outside and touch grass, get a hobby or anything else that occupies your time and helps you MYOB. |
