No, I don’t, and I’m telling you the wealthiest presence in our city are doctors.

I have plenty of friends who are scientists, PhDs, college professors, software engineers and they don’t live half as rich as doctors.

You live in a small pond if the richest people in your area are doctors. And if you know anything about how parasitical the richest of the rich are in other areas, doctors deserve every cent of their wealth if they even have any after their massive student loans. At least they are helping people unlike the rest. And if you don’t like displays of wealth, don’t go to private school.

You begrudge doctors? It’s literally one of the hardest, most stressful things to be and become. Piss off OP—control your gross jealousy.

And MYOB about what people buy for their kids.

You are on the wrong board. This is DC Urban moms and dads. A large portion of people you are so jealous of (oh they go to Europe!!) live the same lives as the doctors you describe. And guess what, hardly any of them are saving lives. You would lose your mind here with all the big law, lobbyists, financial services, CEOs that are making way more than specialist physicians. It’s really gross how jealous you are.

OP,

On DCUM, an MD degree is probably the least wealthy terminal degree you can have. DCUM has lobbyists, lawyers, business owners and top executives making 1m+ a year. My friend's BIL is a hedge fund manager working in NYC and living in Miami for tax purposes and he makes *insane* money.

Hang your head in shame that you would hate on just that group that at least does something useful for its fellow human!

Also, either these people are not as rich as you think, or they have other sources of wealth, or perhaps they're one of the rare doctors that own multiple practices... but otherwise, they're not making that kind of money.

You've shown yourself to be extremely provincial and full of hateful ignorance. For shame, OP! You disgust me.

You picked the school. Who do you think goes to private school?

I have a ton of family members who are doctors and they deal with a lot of bullsh*t on a regular basis. They work incredibly hard and very long hours. They deserve the high salaries they get. You sound incredibly jealous and kind of a b_.
that’s a load of bs

Most specialists work 8-4 with lunch breaks and Fridays off and are not available during school breaks.

They definitely do not.

1. I asked on DCUM last Christmas if they thought it was appropriate to gift a teen a $600 Dyson Airwrap and there were 6 pages of fuming about how it’s too expensive and kids should not be given such expensive gifts and how even DCUM members with 2 mil HHI would not buy such an expensive gift to their kids.

2. I’m not so much jealous, but more put off because a doctor in any other country in the world does not be make this much money and I’m well aware of middle class families doing fundraisers to pay medical bills.

Do you seriously think I was not aware that hedge fund managers make more money? Thanks for educating me.

I’m talking about provincial America and how doctors live very rich. And you are trying to convince me that giving 13 year olds thousands dollar designer purses is not that rich? You poor thing, don’t be so jealous of hedge fund managers.

Have you tried to make an appointment with a specialist in provincial America? The wait list is at least a couple of months long and they don’t work 40 hours a week.

Rare consensus OP is a hateful jealous fool. You shouldn’t send your kid to private school OP.

Do you feel jealous about some Russian oligarch who stole money and bought themselves a billion dollar yacht? Do you feel jealous of African prince who bought himself a mansion? They are just using a system too.

I’m not jealous of American doctors. It all seems rather vulgar in provincial America.

I’m talking about classes and inequality.

Are you related to 8 doctors that range from a radiologist (easy job) to an OB (frequently on call, frequently has to work nights and weekends) to a surgeon (not an easy job, always working, has to plan vacations months in advance)? Because I am and they are hard workers who deserve their salaries. My neighbor who is a nurse anesthetist on the other hand....

Also, 99% of doctors do not have that kind of money. What kind of uneducated idiot do you have to be to believe this? Did you grow up under a rock? Do you not know any doctors in real life besides the ones who are millionaires at this school? Are you a conspiracy theorist in other areas of your life as well?

I don't know about that.

I don't live in DC area, but ALL the doctor families in our school live this type of lavish lifestyle and this is about 50% of the school. They have estates, multiple homes, homes worth millions of dollars, they drive Teslas and Porsche, go on international trips more than once a year - Italy in the summer, Costa Rica in the fall, skiing in the winter, London in spring, they have cleaners of course, nannies. Many of them have 3-4 kids in the private school. The kids are dressed head to toe in Lululemon, have the latest and greatest and now designer bags.

The only ones I've met in my life that don't make that type of income are urgent care doctor and our pediatrician. Honestly, this all feels like a feast in time of plague.

ohhh- I get it now. I was about to chime in and say that you must not live on the east coast. in underserved areas dr's do indeed make Ferrari money. a lot of them are immigrants with zero med school debt as ell so they are swimming in money. op- it is not like that for dr's on the east coast, they are solidly UMC, they are not rich. I am from Dc and my whole family is physicians (out asian) and we moved to teh midwest and I'd always heard my mom talk about the "dr. wives" from Chicago but they are crazzzzzy vulgar spendy. You need to get your daughter a more varied friend group, especially since what ve observed is that this eppl have Ferraris and diamonds but still send their kids to the local state flagship that they pay for out of pocket .. they will pay for a really NAME grad degree.. basically spending big and saving up for education is not important to them. I mostly avoid them like the plague.. they are like real housewives. On etc east coast this would be sahw of finance guys- not drs.
