DD goes to a private school. Most of her friends' are doctors' kids.
Let me tell you about doctors in America. In the rest of the world, a doctor is just middle class, maybe upper middle class. In America doctors are millionaires while people are going bankrupt because of a serious illness. These doctor's families in DD's have multi million dollar homes, lake houses, other properties, they drive Teslas, fly their 5-6 family members to Europe of every spring, fall, winter and summer breaks. They complain that first class tickets have gotten a bit too expensive. Anyway, DD's birthday is coming up soon and I was asking her what she wants for her birthday and what other girls get for their birthdays. Mind you, they are 13. DD said they get designer stuff, like her friend got two Louis Vuitton bags for her birthday. Seriously? Several thousand dollar bags? I was asking on this forum about buying a Dyson Airwrap for Christmas and everyone said $600 is way too much for a gift for a 13 year old. This is just a vent. Blows my mind. |
| My daughter is 14 years old and my parents just gifted her our childhood home worth 1.5 million.๐๐๐ |

The doctor who saved my babyโs life deserves every cent of his million dollar salary.
Why donโt you direct your ire towards all the finance and tech types who make multiples more? |
|
My husband is a doctor and does research at NIH working on cancer, and other serious diseases. Your medical treatments have been developed by doctors working on clinical research, who are not paid very much considering their years in school. At no time has his salary exceeded 120K a year.
Your post is extremely offensive. Please educate yourself on American healthcare. Doctors are not at fault. They are victims of a system that puts business people in charge of medical care. If you cannot tolerate the social element in a wealthy private, you should put your child in public school. That's where my kids are, and they are thriving. |
| Regular pediatricians and family docs are not insanely rich actually. Just the specialists. |
|
Your child picked the wrong friends. If they ALL like this, it's time to change schools. Also, 99% of doctors do not have that kind of money. What kind of uneducated idiot do you have to be to believe this? Did you grow up under a rock? Do you not know any doctors in real life besides the ones who are millionaires at this school? Are you a conspiracy theorist in other areas of your life as well? |
I don't know about that. I don't live in DC area, but ALL the doctor families in our school live this type of lavish lifestyle and this is about 50% of the school. They have estates, multiple homes, homes worth millions of dollars, they drive Teslas and Porsche, go on international trips more than once a year - Italy in the summer, Costa Rica in the fall, skiing in the winter, London in spring, they have cleaners of course, nannies. Many of them have 3-4 kids in the private school. The kids are dressed head to toe in Lululemon, have the latest and greatest and now designer bags. The only ones I've met in my life that don't make that type of income are urgent care doctor and our pediatrician. Honestly, this all feels like a feast in time of plague. |
Why are you so jealous? Medical school and training are no walk in the park. A doctors job involves a lot of responsibility. |
| You do know that the majority of doctors have nothing to do with the cost of healthcare.... Right? |
| OMG, OP. Doctors also had to work in person through the worst of Covid. They deal with a-holes like you day in and day out. I have a ton of family members who are doctors and they deal with a lot of bullsh*t on a regular basis. They work incredibly hard and very long hours. They deserve the high salaries they get. You sound incredibly jealous and kind of a b_. |
| WOW - what is wrong with you, OP? What doctor did you wrong? |
OP. You are on DCUM. Many of us live in 1m+ homes and go on international trips (some of us, including myself, are international and have family abroad!). Most very wealthy families in the US are NOT doctors, just because it's hard to reach that level if you're a doctor. There are very few families who buy haute couture for their kids. These days, duplicates are very big. There is a subset of haute couture fans who specialize in high quality duplicates of well-known brands. Regardless of what these families are actually buying, you seem to have gotten stuck in a circle that you are not comfortable with. Instead of lashing out at them in displaced anger, stop feeling insecure and remove yourself and your child. Or teach your child to be comfortable with who she is (which is going to hard in that circle!). Again. Stop blaming the medical profession. You are a very ignorant person. It's not a good look. |
| I gotta know where the doctor kid school is. |
| I suspect the doctors you know have family money. Upper end orthopedic surgeons (highest paid specialty) top out at $1 million. Perhaps they are plastic surgeon s for the Kardashians? |

I click on "Designer bags for kids" and read a rant about wealthy doctors. Most doctors are not as wealthy as you describe, so calm down. They are not responsible for the mess that is American healthcare. Other countries regulate healthcare costs, but the USA is more capitalist and lets markets decide. Here it's a for-profit industry. Doctors are forced by their corporate office owners to see one patient every 15 minutes, otherwise they're fired. They go through grueling training, need to memorize far more than anything you've ever learned in your life, undergo residencies where they work 100+hr weeks (have you ever done that, hmm?), and emerge with huge debts and often a very stressful work environment. I hope you feel shame every time you and your loved ones need medical care in the future. |
