Waitlisted at UVA and W&M

Anonymous
To the PP above. No it’s one year at UVA wise. I know a coworkers son who has been doing it but I am actually not sure he’s going to UVA in the fall. He has had some serious issues not sure what related to. I also know one kid who did do it and is happy with the choice and at UVA now doing great.

My DC was turned off by it because when you tour the school, almost every person who is asked about their favorite memories or traditions at W&M named things that happen in Fall of freshman year. It was really off-putting. Ultimately got off the WL, but chose to go elsewhere.

Almost every person?

During the presentation before the tour.

I think she'd rather go to GMU than JMU (I forgot to add GMU to the original list I posted previously). Neither one gave much aid, unfortunately.

For her, social mostly. And Wise being so isolated (and for an entire year!) Most likely going with W&M.

I'd totally go W & M spring pathway if that's an option. Overall instate that's still got to be a lot more affordable than the OOS/private options, and it's such a great school.

Probably because their minds were just activated by talking to people who were going to be starting new--so they thought about their experiences back when they were in the same situation.

My DS was rejected at W&M, didn’t apply to UVA, offered waitlist at JMU (he declined) and has settled on GMU which is very strong in his interests. Although it’s very close to home, he will live on campus so he’ll get the freshman dorm experience.

This is easy: UVA’s Year in Wise

My niece did the Spring Admit program at W&M and went abroad during the fall. Loved it. When she started at W&M in January, she was placed in a room with an upper classman. All students are guaranteed housing Freshman and sophomore years. The transition in the spring took a few weeks, but she met all the spring admits and then was able to branch out on her own. Missed the big orientation in August, but there was a January orientation.

Congrats to your son--GMU is a great school!
