There are no officers assigned to that Giant. I am 100% certain of this.

Why don’t you ask the police to add clairvoyance to their list of job requirements, since we are expecting officers to KNOW where crimes will occur.

Shouldn't be too hard when there are 12 carjackings in one small area

You do realize that they regularly run calls, correct? That officers can’t just sit around? And you do realize that they are understaffed so there are fewer officers to run more calls?

Again… CALLS. People call 911 and police respond. This has nothing to do with traffic stops. This has to do with police responding to calls, which are up while the rosters are down. They can’t sit in parking lots waiting for crimes to occur because they have to go where they are called.

They are recruiting just fine with the new bonus, they have said so themselves. We'll see of the recruits are any good, I'm doubtful. MCPD refuses to do their jobs because 2 out of 11 councilmembers are critical of them which does not inspire a lot of confidence. I don't think the problem is the council, that is a lame excuse. If an org can't attract people it's more likely a problem inside the org.

They literally gave a councilmember an award for being a "public safety advucare". You can't name more than 2 out if 11 sitting councilmembers' that are even remotely critical of police.

And it has been clearly explained to you that the damage was done with the previous council, of which several were decidedly anti-police. It’s the current council that has a member who has referred to officers as “thugs” and “goons.” She has also called (angrily and repeatedly) for defunding, and she’s currently on the Public Safety Committee. That’s hardly encouraging.

How many out of the nine previous councilmembers were "decidedly anti police"? Btw just bc someone is Black or Latino does not make them anti police.

Hucker, Jawando, Riemer were the three big ones. Navarro and Glass could be, but much less so. The rest were not anti-police, but they certainly did not speak up against poor policy. So it's coming home to roost now.

If the damage is done then it can't be fixed. Why invest resources into something that is irreparably broken? I am not sure what it is you all want since it appears there is nothing the council can do to make it better, besides never criticizing police or passing laws police don't like. How far down do you have to scroll down Mink's Twitter to fine the thugs and goons comment? You are really looking for things to be angry about and as long as you are doing that you will always find something, no matter how long ago it was or whether those people are still in office.

Hyperbole never makes a strong argument. There’s a ton of room between “damage is done” and “can’t be fixed.” There’s also a ton the council can do to make it better, and nobody (seriously… nobody) has suggested “never criticizing police or passing laws police don’t like.” Again, hyperbole doesn’t help. If we want solutions, we need reasonable thinking. What do I want? Well, I’d love to hear an acknowledgment from Mink about her anti-police tweets, something that can make us feel a bit better about her placement on the Public Safety Committee. That would be a good-faith step the council could do.

As for how much time it took for me to find those comments: about 20 seconds. If you search her Twitter feed for the word “police,” you get 15-20 references to defunding and a ton of insults, most of them in the past 2 years.
