Really? I thought one of them prepares the students for AP Microeconomics and the other for AP Macroeconomics; so students can choose to take either A or B or both? |
There is a chance you may be able to take in online during the school year. At least according to this announcement from last year: https://news.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/quicknotes/new-health-education-requirement-beginning-with-class-of-2025/ |
MCPS has not said anything because it will not be made available through central online summer school. Health B will only be available if individual high schools choose to offer it over the summer. It will be an individual high school decision and shared at the school level after spring break. Schools have a choice whether or not to offer it. |
Some High Schoola offered B this year in person; ours did not due to staffing issues. This Health B situation is terrible. The state should not have, in the summer between 8th and 9th grade for the class of 25, assigned a new requirement when there was no curriculum. All the summer school issues flow from this bad state decision. Nonetheless, MCPS needs to focus on finding several alternatives for getting the class of 25 through the class. |
So each school also offers a summer school, in addition to the online option? |
| If your kid is taking summer classes to keep up such a hard curriculum - that is on YOU as parents. No child who is getting great grades should have to do summer school so they can jam pack their schedule with AP's. |
Or, they are doing it to take fun electives as they only get one fun elective per semester. |
Some of them are doing it so they can keep an arts elective (music, visual, theater) in their schedule during the school year. |
There are some kids out there who demand a tough schedule because they are otherwise bored all day in school ... not always the parents! |

Looks like Wootton is offering Health B virtually this summer. Registration opens April 12 and Wootton students have priority, so there may not be space for other students, but it seemed worth sharing here. Session runs June 28 to July 18, M/W/F.

This. It is definitely an issue with MCPS. |
| Why can’t they just take it during the school year? |
Precisely - some kids even want to *gasp* take multiple music or art classes. It isn’t all an AP rat race. And even so, who cares? Taking health everyday for a year would be a waste for many kids. If it works for you great |
| We just left Whitman and our new local school permits an online version of health through Bingham Young University (yes, I know, mormon etc). And that might be something to suggest as the curriculum is exactly the same. |
