Dickinson still in trouble?

This is astroturfing by someone who doesn’t like Dickinson for some strange reason.

The falling enrollment between 2018 and 2019 could possibly be attributed to their "Should white boys still be allowed to talk?" guest piece in the school newspaper in February 2019. I know I would never pay for my kids to go there, specifically because of that.

+1 It is known not to be welcoming to non-whites.

How does Dickinson compare to say Gettysburg? Financially, it seems to be doing better than Allegheny which did drop a few majors and minors.

Literally every school has fringe students.

We toured and thought it look like the least fringe or alternative school we visited. Almost every female student looked like she probably played a sport and wore Uggs to high school.

Part of being a hidden gem means that many people know nothing about the college and may say negative things out of ignorance.

Or that those who deem a school to be a hidden gem just don't know any better.

My DS attends a New England SLAC. Like Dickinson, a large percentage of students study abroad for at least a portion of their junior year. I do think DS started to feel like he needed a change and was very excited to go abroad. He loved his time abroad but it also made him appreciate everything about his college at home. He realized how much he loved being a part of a small school, the community he had, the ease of a smaller campus, the access to professors, etc. and he was really excited to come back. He also appreciated that his college really encouraged students to study abroad and made it as easy as possible. You should ask if her merit aware can be applied to study aboard.

Dickinson has always been a hidden gem of a school. They have also always been generous with both financial aid and merit scholarship awards.

More than twenty years ago, I was awarded merit scholarships and financial aid that covered almost all of my tuition plus room and board. Two of my siblings went to our state flagship and my parents actually paid more for each of them, even with financial aid, to go to the state school than they paid for me to go to Dickinson.

It was a great education in a wonderful place. I am grateful for that and I give back to the school regularly so others can have the same opportunities I had.

Dickinson is so over the top amazing! It’s the ultimate for multi-disciplinary learning. They were doing it 30-40 years ago way before others caught on. You learn ‘how to think’ there. The professors are amazing. The small scale nature is friendly and makes the college a true learning community.

With merit aid and grants, we are paying less at Dickinson than we would be paying at our state school, University of MD, College Park, and Dickinson is a better fit. Our daughter can major in science, be very involved in the performing arts, have a class in her foreign language every day, and study abroad. She has wonderful professors. Dickinson was a great choice for her.

My sister got her law degree there. I do think there is a strong alumni network for the school at least for those staying in PA afterwards.

Dickenson Law is at Penn State, not at Dickenson College. It's not a great law school FWIW

It's ranked only as a Baa2 by Moody's.
