I give a lot away because I am decluttering. If someone fails to pick up I won’t choose them again. Not worth the hassle |
If the item doesn’t work out for the giftee, they can look back at the post and choose another recipient who had expressed interest. |
My local group asks that you 1) let it simmer for at least a couple of days so that people who don't live online get a chance to express interest, *or* 2) state up-front in your post that you're "speed gifting" to the first responder. I feel like that's a reasonable approach. We also don't have any post approval so there's no lag. |
In the 2 I've been a part of the poster picks whoever they want, @ them they've been chosen and ask them to DM. Once it's been gifted we then edit the post and mark it's been gifted. Personally I look at the people who have asked to be considered and gift to people who contribute regularly to the group. |
That's how it works in my group, too. There are people who ask for everything, then never pick up. I don't know what their deal is, but I don't include them in my RNGs. Our group is also big on looking for stuff to borrow -- tools, books, etc. It really is about buying less (I won't say "nothing") PS I hate "gift" as a verb. There's already a verb for giving people things. |
One day I counted the same person claiming twelve items. She must be notified of every post. But she does reliably pick things up on schedule so I can see why it’s easy just to give to her. |
What does RNG mean? I see that every now and again. |
