Accepted for middle school! It was our first choice so we're super happy.

+1 although I’m pretty sure if their child actually got into Maret today the last thing they’re doing right now is trolling DC urban moms to make others feel bad..

In contrast to my DD’s school, which seems to have a range of kids in terms of where they fall academically, we have found less of a range in my kid’s class at Maret. The majority of the kids are high achievers and all want to be high achievers. If you don’t want to keep up with the Jones’s, it may be hard to keep up. Example: the current 8th grade: there is one non honors math. All other classes are honors or accelerated. That’s unusual.

If you are applying for 9th at Maret, we have heard that there is very little attrition this year and that it would be tight for 9th. If you are going into 9th, the current 8th grade is pretty nice albeit some might say quirky. I know the kids love to have new kids come to the school. It’s time for new faces. And if you do end up going, we always are looking for a carpool.

Our child will be applying next year for 9th. Thoughts on the current 7th grade in terms of size and personality?

FWIW: my DS has a bunch of friends in 7th and they seem nice kids. Per my son FWIW, the current 7th grade is more “preppy” than his class. I wouldn’t let my kid out of the house in some things I’ve seen the 8th graders wear, so maybe that’s a good thing? But I don’t hear too much “drama” about that class. We’ve had a harder time meeting people than I would have liked. Many kids live really close to the school. We live close but not walking distance. But our kid is happy.

Yeah, there are amazing few people on this board right now saying “Yay! I got into STA/NCS/Maret/SFS/GDS.” To some extent, it could mean that few people got it. Or, perhaps, that those in such schools aren’t hitting the message boards.

Great insider info. Any insight on the current 6th grade class?

Well, if there really aren’t that many people that are getting into the schools across the board, and the waitlists are very real
And must be very active.
