I don't know why Karen Keys Gamarra thinks she's qualified for higher office.
The district she's seeking to represent in the House of Delegates covers a lot of territory and includes communities with varied interests. As an at-large member of the School Board she had very little command of where schools in the county were located, much less their different needs. I once had a conversation with her after she'd already been on the Board for two years and she confessed that she had trouble keeping two high schools apart from one another. The level of attention to detail just was not there. She's never showed up for any events in our pyramid. She's often late or absent from School Board work sessions. Her only priority as a School Board member appear to have been changing school names (which is fine, but hardly a major coup) and getting a "social justice" or "leadership" academy installed at Lewis HS, which doesn't seem like it's going to do much to attract families to that school. And once she's off the School Board, there's at least a 50% chance the whole Lewis Academy thing is going to turn into even more of a fiasco, since it was always her personal pet project. She also offended many families when word emerged that she'd repeatedly used the "r-word" both in public and in private contexts in connection with School Board activities. So for those in Herndon, Reston, Oakton or other areas in the 7th District, think twice voting for Keys Gamarra just because you may have heard the name. This woman isn't fit for public office, especially not one with even more responsibility than she has now. |
