Parochial or private school? Even if the pay might start out lower and they might nit really like "how things are" in a private (or religious) school?

I left teaching last year. I tutor full-time. I have so much less stress and make the same money.

I don’t believe you? Also what are you doing for health insurance.

What's so hard to believe? Teachers make $55k - $70k to start depending on their education. Let's say your average teacher makes $70k for arguments sake. $70k is $191 / year.

A quick search on wyzant of tutors teaching high school math courses reveals tutors charging anywhere from $60-$200 / hour. If you're at the low end of this, you'll need to work an average of 4 hours / day. If you're at the high end, maybe 7-10 hours / week?

Anyway, feel free to fudge the numbers based on experience for teachers. Healthcare can be obtained through a spouse or government exchange program.

I’m the PP, why don’t you believe me? I’m on my spouse’s health care. Tutoring 15-20 hours a week gets me to my old salary range. I have little to no expenses.

There are 365 days in a year. Assuming you’re willing to put the hustle in, 3-4 hours / day of tutoring (with no grading, minimal parent phone calls/emails, etc) is definitely less work than teaching.

There have been days this year where I’ve cleared $1500 tutoring in one day.
