How much do you leave for hotel housekeeping?

I put up a don’t disturb sign, I carry extra plastic bags for trash if the trash can is not enough (rarely), and therefore I don’t tip.
I heard from some people in an fb discussion who worked in housekeeping that the manager would quickly check the rooms right after checkout and take the tip. It has increased by unwillingness to tip

$5 daily left before the room is cleaned for the day. We also a neat people and rarely leave crumbs, clothes lying around or trash outside the can.

$5 a day but since Covid no hotel I’ve stayed in has offered daily housekeeping. And my stay hasn’t been long enough to trigger the 5-day sheet and towel change. So it’s a moot point.

I haven’t been offered housekeeping in the last couple hotels I’ve stayed at, so nothing.

Never have thought to tip. Housekeeping is built in the price of the room. Tipping in this country is out of control.

At least at a hotel I can choose to do it or not without an iPad flipping around.

While i agreed that tipping is out of control lately, hotel housekeeping has always been a place where it’s expected (just like sit-down restaurants). I usually leave $5 per cleaning or $5-10 at the end of the stay if we don’t use housekeeping. Nobody hesitates to give bellhops (usually men) a tip for 5 minutes of work but the question tipping housekeeping (usually women), with each room taking 20-30 minutes.

Generally I thinking tipping hotel housekeepers well is a way to get money to low income working women who have a largely invisible job.[/[b]quote]

This is why I tip $5 a night.

Same here. $5/day.

$5-20 depending on the bill I have.

People, you don’t “have” to tip housekeeping. Calm down. Go get some breakfast.

Huh? I don’t think it’s ever been expected to tip housekeeping the way you tip servers.

Usually when I check in, there’s someone still cleaning some of the other rooms when I get there. I go over to them, ask them if they’re there all week (or however long I’m staying) and I give them cash on the spot “in case I don’t see you again.” That way I know she gets the tip and if o need something they show up right away,

My rule of thump is if they make more than minimum wage, I don’t tip.

Waitstaff who make less than minimum and who rely on tips will get a tip.

Wow all you folks who don’t tip housekeepers are cold blooded!

They are usually women and make minimum wage. The job is hard. I am happy to tip $5/night (when solo on business travel) and go up to $10 when it’s a family stay in a suite or something.

Also, work with folks who are in the hotel biz (I am in CRE) and all the hotel folks tip.

Terrible karma not to

Karma isn’t a real thing. You know that, right?

This. Never tipped in my life. I’d venture to say that over 90% of hotel guests do not. I’ve never even heard of it being a thing outside of DCUM. So likely just the PPs on this board that are doing it.

And no, if I ever stay in a hotel, I will not do it, though I’m usually in Airbnb and their cleaning fee is $200
