Omg, seriously? Clutch my pearls!

Is it the piano store, car dealership, animal hospital Lidl, or diner you don’t like?

Hey, OG I didn't say I feared my safety,. It old and the roads were torn to hell. Just wasn't much to look at. Looking at Google maps, i see route 1 south of campus looks like it was more of the stuff that may be of more interest to a college student.

Its a lot newer than it was and even the shady motel complex is going to be replaced soon by another mixed use development. As if we need more of those..but yes, not a lot a college kids would go up that way for much unless they lived up that way.

And yes, esp the SB right lane is currently a complete disaster.

But its going to be a rough year between 193 and main entrance, the road work south of campus is nearly done but N of of the main entrance its now in full swing and will be for sometime. It will be nice in a year or so though. Then Town Hall and that little shopping center is going to become another mixed use house of sticks on a garage......yay.

Oh, yuck about more sticks on a garage. The “big blocks of nothing” apartment buildings on route one are disappointing already.

Once the purple line is complete - access to the metro and DC will be a huge improvement. The campus and surrounding area are going thru a lot of growing pains, but once it's all said and done it will be a really lovely college town with lots of shops, restaurants, and apartments. Its come a long way from the 1990s. The campus continues to add new buildings and facilities - which come at a cost for the green space. My son says it's one of the ugliest campuses he's been on - but the facilities are so new and vibrant that it makes up for the lack of beauty.

No need to worry about that.

Great location?? College Park is a dump.

I went to VT.

Compare that to Blacksburg or Charlottesville

What exactly are you looking for?

We live 5 miles away and two of our kids live on campus. We've got most everything nearby. The only thing my kids wish was closer is that silly overpriced cat cafe in Georgetown. Someone should open one of those in College Park. They would make a fortune.

+1 omg yes

I'm allergic, but my kid would love this. I think younger HSer DC would be there all the time, too. Older DC headed to UMD might not like that, though. LOL

There’s been nothing to do in College Park since The Vous closed.

I took my elderly parents to the UMD/Penn State game on Saturday and my mom said that Route 1 (north of campus) looked the same as when I went to UMD in the early 90s. However, after the game, we went to Burton's and she said Hyattsville and south college park is so new and nice and so many more grocery options. I agree, south campus is new and nice, and has a trader joe's!
