Is driving the speed limit really so bad?

Bet OP is a habitual speeder and pissed off everyone in the neighborhood to the degree they started chasing her

Speed up. You're not special.

I'd happily opt out of the group forever and literally never acknowledge this woman's existence ever again.

+1 And I would ask to have this taken down from NextDoor or wherever it is.

Stay away from these crazy neighbors.

Nextdoor is a meeting house for crazies who enable each other. There are some exceptions, but it's not the majority of people or your neighbor's, OP. I'd flag the post and ignore.

Up to 5mph over is reasonable if you're aware. 5mph under as a standard is insane, and it doesn't make them safer drivers. Ignore the crazies OP.

Or its a troll job.

I'm 50/50 on didn't happen or neighbor is a lunatic.

If the OP was a habitual speeder the neighbor would have caught them speeding not obeying.

OP here....this was my unspoken question. We're no longer in the DMV, and people regularly drive like this! Wasn't sure if it was me or them.

I routinely speed and birdwatch on the beltway.

Same! Hello, friend!

Wow. That is NOT cool of them. At all.

I thought this was going to be about how if you *only* drive the speed limit people get mad at you! Not that you are being cancelled because you had the audacity to obey posted laws.

If you are a dues paying member of the HOA frankly I'm not sure it's legal for them to exclude you from an HOA platform. Assuming the Association is organized under the IRS section 501 rules, you can't just pick members to exclude from things because you're mad.

Legal or not it's really sh*tty of them.

Their argument was that's a LIMIT, and they can drive far under it for "safety."

Is it a residential neighborhood with kids? I usually go maybe 7-10 miles over the limit on major roads and certainly on highways. But in my own little neighborhood, I probably go 15 when the speed limit is 25, because there are a million kids and people walking their dogs and it’s just not necessary to tear through the streets. 25 seems very fast given that there are no lane lines and two cars can’t go down the street at once. There’s a woman everyone hates on our street because she comes racing around the corner. She is probably going under 25, but still too fast!

People who think slower = safer are morons. They're the same people who put their highbeams on, because they think "more light=safer." For residential roads, 5mph under and 5mph over is the reasonable range for competent drivers who understand nuance in circumstances (which is an essential skill, to be a good driver).

You're an idiot for going 15 in a 25. And probably need some occupational therapy for your insanely slow reaction times.
