I’m hopeful this is a very safe list! I should get in one of these…

We hope you do, too, OP. And we hope that you love kindergarten and learn all of your letters.

We got in to all three and then decided. Good list, and good luck!

Interesting because Georgetown Day School and Beauvoir SO different. I’m just curious, what are the commonalities in these two particular schools that make them your top two choices rather than two similar schools?

(on a sidenote, they are both great schools)

I’m not so sure anymore. Although I don’t know your child and maybe for your child that’s the case. I’m just saying, but this is no longer a sure thing for a lot of people.

Not for HS. Several kids from our school want to switch to Bullis in HS for sports.

Maybe its because they both have great playgrounds? A location preference could also explain the preference as both are on the Wisconsin route to downtown from Bethesda/Chevy Chase/Tenleytown.

I agree on the location, good point, only because they're reasonably close but wow otherwise such different schools, philosophies, student and parent populations, etc..

Regardless they're very highly regarded schools. OP is lucky.

I’m the PP. I don’t necessarily see a lot of commonalities between the two, but see different good things about both and am conflicted on what qualities are most important to me. I like the culture/community of GDS, but BVR seemed like such a joyful place for kids. I find it hard to tell at this age what kind of learning environment will be best for my child, so I struggle with how to view different educational philosophies or curriculums, though maybe that’s a reason not to do pk-12. I don’t know, there’s a lot to consider - and DH and I currently have different top choices (he favors GDS)- but I have absolutely no expectations that we’ll be in a position to have to choose.

How are the parent populations different? Both are full of UMC / wealthy families. GDS has a bigger financial aid budget I believe but its still predominantly UMC.

Have you considered an educational consultant? Sounds like to could really help with your particular situation.

All indépendant private schools tend to be full of wealthy families, yes. I do think these two schools do have that in common.

Only if you are only looking at the ones with wealthy families. Lots of less expensive schools. But yes, most of the families at these two schools are wealthy. And only look at expensive schools. So they tend to attract the same wealthy families. There are relatively small differences in approach but no discernible difference in the families or the students. Just look at all the examples here of people applying to the same places. To the schools, these people must look pretty fungible once you skim off those with unique hooks.

OP doesn’t know if their DC is in anywhere- decisions aren’t out yet. Good luck, all.
