We are in an affluent Vienna neighborhood and it’s the same. You see a huge variety of sneakers. My kids always wanted what was comfortable. At the moment, one is wearing ASICS and the other has New Balances. The New Balances are chunky and totally white but were not expensive. She liked how they felt. 2 teens

Do your kids go to private school?

No

Acsics or Onitsuga Tigers? My kids steal my cool tigers with the fun colors but would never wear normal Acsics.

+1 My 15 year old wears ugly running shoes almost every day, but comfort is all she cares about.

At our private school, the kids in PE are wearing all the same shoes I see on sale at DSW. No particular brand. No pressure to have the "it" shoe.

I could ask her but she already knows about the one other significant gift she is getting so I would like this to be a surprise. Are Air Force 1s still cool?

This is pathetic. You're concerned with what's in vs what she would.like. tsk tsk

Not pathetic. Op knows her child. Like lots of kids, she probably likes most of what's in at the moment, and op wants to surprise her. She also said her DD can exchange the shoes for something she likes better.

My mom did stuff like this for me when I was that age.

I'm the pp who asked. I had just googled and learned the Onitsuka Tigers are now related to Asics somehow or other. The tigers are cute!! ... yet I'd only seen those on Older Millennials and Gen X. So I guess it makes sense that the kids like them now (like the return of Doc Martens, all stars, Reeboks, Jordans).

We just got our kid Jordans. I can’t believe Michael Jordan still has the it shoe. What’s going on with LeBron and Curry??

DD is a freshman in HS. She is pretty trendy I think. Like others said AF1 seems to be out, she hadn't worn hers in over 6 months. She mostly wears converse high tops. She doesn't like the feel and look of the Blazers so she recently bought these ones https://www.nike.com/t/air-max-90-amd-womens-shoes-2ZsM2w/DH8010-101 But I'm not sure if they are popular.

Imagine growing up with a mom who says stuff like about girls who don’t care about looking the “right” way. No wonder so many teen girls are mean and insecure.

This. Several kids on the track team wear Brooks. Most comfy for running.

I'd rather get as a surprise and then she can exchange if she likes something else better. We are in an FCPS public. And for those whose kids don't care, that's awesome. Happy for them, and you. (One of) Mine does.

OP, my daughter cares too. She may not care about clothing brands, but she does care about shoes. To each their own. And when we are growing up this was a thing too- You had to have guess jeans! It’s really no different than that.
