Here's an idea. If your kid is having mental health issues, get them addressed as a parent. That is your job. It's also your responsibility to teach nutrition at home and have them exercise. Stop expecting MCPS to parent your kids.

My kids get physical activity, nutrition, and mental health learning at home. If they have needs, we meet those needs. So, yes, mine would rather take an AP class over PE or health.

The health classes are pretty useless. Half of the class is definitely about things that my child would rather replace with a financial literacy requirement.

My kids are on a team sports, pretty aware of healthy habits, and wants room to take electives of their choices during the year which includes AP Physics!

Busy work. Not sure what else they can possibly cover in B. Probably focused on opioid addiction. Kid would rather take something more useful for college prep.

Yes, you're correct. MCPS should be educating children. It isn't their job to parent. Unfortunately, some people feel it's the county's job to raise their children and expect them to do all these things. That's beyond the charter of public schools

Ours is very political in terms of some of the teachings and it is overboard. I'm as liberal as they come but its getting to the point where it's doing more harm than good for some kids.

For the second class, home econ or financial literacy makes far more sense. My kids have had it constantly in middle school and they just repeat the same stuff over and over again.

I’m the one who said there were political leanings in the health class. We are not anti-mask or anti-vax. We have had all COVID boosters and my kid still masks everywhere.

There are also lots of depressing essays (suicide, drugs etc). As a PP said too this is covered in middle school over and over again too.

I call the Health class anti-Health. My kid has enough busy work and if they really cared about mental health they’d given them more flexibility to choose a class that they want. If you have kids the choice of taking Health B or Yoga- my kid would certainly take yoga.
