I have thanked people multiple times in this thread for their responses. Including the PP who is mad I didn’t thank them. There’s been some good feedback, minus the troll who hates anyone who travels.

Dp. I have no idea why people are responding to you like this. Maybe try asking again when it’s not 8 degrees out and these posters are doing something else.

+1 Op, I would do this. I recommend you go to TripAdvisor forum and look for info there, people are very helpful there.

I think is only one poster/troll, who is mad at OP because she is going to Colombia.

I’ll bet OP doesn’t speak a word of Spanish.

Op here- I’m not a native speaker or entirely fluent but I’m conversant

To the PP’s who suggested Medellín , thank you! Definitely seems more consensus that that’s a destination we should focus on over Bogota.

Idk! The poster who is mad at me for saying I’m used to humidity seemed to take that personally but I meant it more as “thanks for letting us know but it isn’t a deterrent for us” in case they thought heat/humidity might be a big dealbreaker. I know some people really prefer certain weather and wouldn’t go somewhere if the weather there was a type they couldn’t tolerate but it was helpful to know that it will impact when the city is more vibrant and to try to find accommodations with a pool.

I have great Airbnb suggestions for Medellin but if i names them, angry pps will claim in the agent/owner. I am not.

Medellin is a much more livable city than Cartagena, but for a 7-8 day vacation, not sure if it makes sense to do both cities. Most ex-pats living in Colombia typically don't like staying in Cartagena for more than a few days. But if you have never been, I can see how a week in Cartagena would be fine. Medellin has great weather, public transportation, and lots of options for day trips. If you go to Medellin, avoid staying in Poblado because it's not walkable and hard to get around without a car.

Not both? We are planning to fly into one, get a cheap flight from there to the other city, and then fly home from city #2.

Yeah, it's just personal preference. Flights from Cartagena to Medellin are fast and really cheap! What part of Cartagena are you planning on staying? El Centro during the day is really hot, so many people prefer to get an AirBnb in Laguito or Bocagrande area and go to El Centro in the evening.

It’s not too hot for OP though! She’s made of tougher stuff than everyone else and makes sure we all know it.

You *really* need to get over this. You were thanked for your insight , I let you know heat isn’t a dealbreaker for us and you’re still mad about it. It’s kinda weird!

Tourism to Colombia including Cartagena hasnt recovered from COVID as yet, so you’ll get great rates on Airbnb if you are open to that route- make sure you get one w a maid

Personally, I like staying in La Boquilla but that’s just me.

Don’t listen to the nutty nay-sayer. They should be happy you aren’t trying to visit their virgin destinations.

We’re interested in Cartagena after hearing from friends how much they enjoyed it there, but would like to pick another city to fly to mid-week if we go. If you’ve been, would you suggest a Cartagena/Medellin itinerary or a Cartagena/Bogota itinerary?

Cartagena is beachy and sunny and touristy. Bogota is nice and cosmopolitan and has constant late spring weather. Medellin is beautiful and sunny as well but is less touristy than both Cartegena and Bogota but is also fun and interesting.

NOTE: I been to Bogota three times, Medellin once and Cartagena zero times.
