Medellin is a much more livable city than Cartagena, but for a 7-8 day vacation, not sure if it makes sense to do both cities. Most ex-pats living in Colombia typically don't like staying in Cartagena for more than a few days. But if you have never been, I can see how a week in Cartagena would be fine. Medellin has great weather, public transportation, and lots of options for day trips. If you go to Medellin, avoid staying in Poblado because it's not walkable and hard to get around without a car.
Not both? We are planning to fly into one, get a cheap flight from there to the other city, and then fly home from city #2.
Yeah, it's just personal preference. Flights from Cartagena to Medellin are fast and really cheap! What part of Cartagena are you planning on staying? El Centro during the day is really hot, so many people prefer to get an AirBnb in Laguito or Bocagrande area and go to El Centro in the evening.
No idea yet! But thanks for giving me some neighborhood options to look into!
