Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng

I don't get her either, OP. I haven't read the title you listed but I did read Little Fires Everywhere and Everything I Never Told You. Didn't care for either one.

She is the ultimate mean girl, and continues to be rewarded despite the fact, even by the likes of Reese Witherspoon. Reese champions women, but then supports Celeste who tried to help ruin a woman's career. It reminds me of all the posts saying the mean girls will eventually fall..."nope."

Same here. Lost all respect for her based on the way she handled that (both the back story and the way she doubled down when the story went public.)

The title is remarkably stupid. That’s as far as I’ll get because of Bad Art Friend (and because I think she’s trite). I wish some brave little Tweeter with a following would talk at her about Dawn Dorland relentlessly, and that as they were blocked another picked it up. “Popularity” seems pretty important to her.

I strongly disagree with you - to me is sounds like harassment on a big platform. Besides, she already got her portion of shame on SM and among her colleagues. I don't like her work in general but believe in redemption after an ethical mistake.

But she doesn’t think she made a mistake at all.

You’re “strongly” disagreeing with a funny fantasy that no one is mobilizing?

She is not redeemed. You’re FOS if you think she or most of that nasty crew feel anything like shame for their behavior. Welcome to the actual world; it’s a mixed bag.

She is not redeemed. But I believe she still has to have a second chance as a writer. There are other shitty and harmful authors that are bestsellers you can spend your mobilizing energy on.

Yeah the thing is, she’s also IMO a terribly insipid writer. Also, please chill.

She got nothing. She gets no redemption as she doesn't think she did anything wrong.

I'm surprised by the reactions on this thread. I just finished OMH and LOVED it. Ng's writing is excellent, and I appreciate how she wove together the timely themes of anti-Asian sentiment, an authoritarian government, and the power of stories. This is maybe my favorite read of 2023 so far!
