Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng

I just read this and AGAIN wish I hadn't bought the Ng hype! I thought her previous books were predictable and not that great. Ditto this one. I just don't get the love for her work... NYT, LA Times, Kirkus, everyone loves her stuff. What am I not getting? Anyway, just here to say that.

I find her to be a bit paint by numbers too. Not bad, but not something I'd recommend to anyone either. The kind of book you buy at the airport before you get on the plane and then leave at the resort.

I just posted in the DNF thread. I'm 1/3 through and it was slog to get here. I can assume it won't get better?

After The Bad Art Friend debacle, I will never buy a book of hers again. She is the ultimate mean girl, and continues to be rewarded despite the fact, even by the likes of Reese Witherspoon. Reese champions women, but then supports Celeste who tried to help ruin a woman's career. It reminds me of all the posts saying the mean girls will eventually fall..."nope."

Funny, I'm also a third of the way through, and I don't totally disagree with you, but... it also keeps making me think about the crazy politics of the last six years, and all the current school board insanity, so I'll finish it.

(And I admit that I've met Ng just after her first book was published and liked her, so there's that.)

She’s awful.

Stephen King wrote the raving review in the NYT Book Review, NOT a staff critic. But yeah, agree with you that overall the book got a very good score among critics.

I’m not going to read her book either..it seems generic/basic. (Sorry! Don’t come after me!)
