Talk about saying the quiet part out loud. Before it went out of virtue signaling fashion, there was a melting pot theory (and practice). Now, fitting in is passe in favor of naked tribalism, which ultimately thrives no hate. |
OP here.. yes I agree of course. It isn't unique to the left. Ive always critiqued the right.. but specifically focusing on the left here because it seems to have taken over schools (Except with it comes to being pro palestinian of course). |
You fit in like we do, also a foreign couple who used to live in DC: Move to Florida! The whole coast from Miami to Delray Beach is awesome, beautiful, cosmopolitan...and sane. Plenty of great schools too around Boca Raton, both public and private. Give it a thought ![]() |
You have a "foreign background" and feel foreign. Is that unusual? |
There are none. The whole "woke" thing is over the top projection from the right to foster more divisiveness in our country. |
Please, these schools are trying to provide a welcoming environment that will attract the children of the rich and the elite. Every things they do if with that aim |
It is among the most corrupt states in the country. No thanks. |
Did any of you actually read the article? It’s less about how private schools are too woke (although he may very well think they are) and more about DEI is the latest phase in how elite institutions set the tone for what is considered “elite” in a classist sort of way. He compares it to all the black tie events at Harvard, which forced him to learn to tie a bow tie, which he would not have otherwise done. Its an interesting article, but its not really about what the subject suggests. |
FWIW, I think it's a good idea to hold off on making any enrollment decisions until I could identify my specific concerns and also identify the evidence that I have that those concerns are valid. In my experience, often feelings that things are moving in the wrong direction aren't based on facts. I get it, we all have those feelings (and I am in 100% agreement with on the class stuff, although I'd have to do some research to discover whether area schools actually neglect this topic to the degree I fear they do) but that's why I think it is important to require (of myself) actual evidence to support my sense before acting on them. |
This has to be the first time in modern history that anyone has used the word "sane" to describe Florida. |
OP here. Above response wasn’t from me by the way. Florida doesn’t appeal to me because all my in laws are here lol. Plus DC has more expats and it’s easier to get flights to back home ![]() |
OP here. Good point! This is all based on feeling and what I’m hearing about what’s happening in universities. |
Always love to see people sending their kids to private school and then complaining that they lack economic diversity. Never gets old |
OP here. Yes I liked the article because his critique is coming from the left. It’s more about how this DEI that purports to care about being inclusive is actually exclusive. And that’s the point. |
Yes of course, that's the number #1 reason why so many people are coming from all over -- over 1 million Americans just in the last 2 years alone, including significant numbers from CA and the NE. (That's domestic migration data, I'm sure it's higher counting international flows) But sure, you be you. OP, the invitation stands. |
