This is a global team. It’s still not acceptable. Give at least 24 hours notice, unless it’s an emergency. This deadline has been know for a month.

Not enough to deal with this. $160K plus a $4-5K bonus.

That’s in what I consider all-hours email checking salary range. I thought you were going to say sub 6 figures.

I'm a boss who often does things last minute, because I'm disorganized like that. I'd totally send an important email the night before. However, if it was really important, I'd just call the person, because I know it's possible they won't see it in time. If the boss blamed you, then that's just projection, because it's totally his/her fault.

Spoken as a true American. The company owns your life then.

That’s unreasonable.

I was the PP who said it's the boss's fault, but I just saw this now after posting. Agree that it's a lot of money and expectations can be higher. If works is supposed to start at 8am, then I'd side with the boss here. If it's supposed to start at 8:30 and end before 9pm, then still his/her fault.

Our hours are flexible, and can be set by us. There’s no general set time.

If you sold it to them, yes. My friends in Germany make less and do less.

And they’re undoubtedly happier. This country is sick.

Stop doing that. I wouldn't answer my work phone outside of work hours, so your approach still wouldn't work.

This is a lesson for you to check email first thing in the morning
