So here is the story. Everyone from Galena Place going North on Sherier Pl to the Dalecarlia Reservoir do not own most of their backyards (and in many cases have incorporated city own land into their front driveway)
This is because the streetcar use to run behind their house.....the one that went from Georgetown to Glen Echo Park.
When the line went defunct, the residents just incorporated the land into their houses.
So while Eric has what looks like a full backyard behind his house, he might own 1/4 of it. The rest is the streetcar line. And he and the rest of them doesn't pay property taxes on it.
And the city hasn't done anything about it.
I think the law says the city cannot force anyone to take the land.
However they could fence it off which they haven't bothered to do.

I didn't vote for him, I find his antics annoying, and I don't like tax evasion... but I have to say it sounds like none of these people should be paying property taxes on this land, because they don't own it. Have they fenced it off from the public? Do they treat it as their backyards in any meaningful way other than "they use it more often than anyone else does"? Doesn't seem like anyone here is doing anything wrong, especially since the streetcar line had presumably been defunct for decades before Goulet bought the house.

He is wasting city resources with this filing and will likely cost those accused of wrongdoing, at a minimum of their time and possible legal expenses to defend this frivolous allegation. The Elissastans in Ward 3 find him to be like evil catnip or something.

He's an elected official in Ward 3 now, so he isn't going away no matter how much we try to ignore him.

He ran and lost and then ran for the next available position. He's not going anywhere. He's going to run against Matt as soon as he can. He doesn't know the first thing about DCPS and it's crystal clear every time he opens his mouth. He appealed to the NIMBYs in Foxhall to get elected and now we're stuck with him. His first step was to set up a bunch of working groups for things most DCPS and charter parents in the area are unified on-total energy vampire move-just like the DM of ED and Chancellor. They have a brand and they really stick with it.

What concerns me the most is that he's taking a myopic approach to ward 3 problems and seems to be ignoring the citywide patterns that contribute to some of our biggest issues. His "solutions" seem to involve resource hoarding and are either too big to work or too small to correct the true issue.

Good thing the job is basically powerless. I just don't want him to get in the way of the people who are actually doing the work.

Many people on the SBOE don’t have kids in DCPS.

Elissa Silverman is NOT why they dropped out. She was very late to the party -- almost a full month late. Her timing just happened to be when the candidates reached their tipping points.

Not true. Frumin had the tape to tape lead in fundraising, volunteers and support through his decades of volunteer and advocacy in the ward. The land has been vacant since 1961. Whatever value it brings would be reflected in sales prices, which are what ultimately drive property tax assessments. I doubt many of those houses haven't changed hands in 60 years.
