does this work through a concrete ceiling in condos?

news flash, even if it isn't 10 minutes at a time, your dog consistently yelping/screaming a couple times per hour all day long requires your neighbors to have to wear headphones, use white noise machines, etc all day long to keep their sanity because they never know when it is going to start again. psychologists have studied that noise you cannot control is the worst, so a neighbor that should be controlling their dog's noise and doesn't, just doesn't get it if they are stupid

I mean dogs are going to bark. A few barks when a dog is let out is only to be expected. If your neighbor is leaving the dog outside to bark for minutes at a time that is one thing, but you can’t complain about just a few barks.

My neighbor is leaving their dog out every day for hours at a time to bark. I’m ready to lob a poison treat over the fence.

B. Dogs bark at all kinds of thing and the night time is full of critters and smells. Our dog will go out and run around and bark for hours from like 9-1am. He loves it!

C. We have a large property so no one else can hear our dog. If others can hear your dog, it is not cool to let them out at those hours.

Unless your property is over 20 acres, completely buffeted by woods, and you don’t have neighbors’ homes bordering the property lines, you’re very sadly mistaken that your yapping dog all night does not bother your neighbors.

—Signed, someone who has dogs and doesn’t let them carry on and bark endlessly and who lives where the properties are between five and 30 acres.

I asked them. I don't even hear my dog barking. They are older, properly constructed homes.

Why are children allowed to shriek all day but dogs can't bark?

I live in a similar neighborhood. My next door neighbor has a mule that’s louder than my dog!

Our neighbors let their large dog outside very early every single morning, and instead of waiting to let them back in quickly they seemingly disappear and let the dog bark for 10+ minutes. Every. Damn. Morning.

It wakes us up—and it particularly annoying on the weekend at 6am.

I’m on the verge of doing that. Already sent in one complaint to the county but am not 100% sure if they’re technically breaking the law. I read that the dog needs to be barking 10 minutes or more, what it usually does is bark in 20-40 second bursts with about 1 min break in between each burst, for about 10-15 min, and they let it out about once an hour about a dozen times a day (and sometimes at night). Do you think this falls under the 10 min rule?

So they’re letting their dog out for 10 mins at 11 pm or 1 am? Or their dog is outside from 11-1? The former is probably not illegal. The latter may be.

Not the entire 2 hour period from 11pm-1am, about 10-15 minutes at a time. Dog barks every time it gets let out and the barking is very audible, it wakes me up if I don’t have noise canceling headphones on (which is really annoying to sleep with as I am a side sleeper).

Try ear plugs? I’m not sure you have much recourse here.

I’ve tried earplugs but have issues with wax buildup caused by frequent use of them. Actually sometimes the dog is outside much longer than 15min, it’s been about 40min now. They let it out 10 times a day or more. It barks off and on every few minutes. Ugh.

I realize this is annoying behavior but it's reasonable to let their dog out in their own yard. You stated it's a limited bark as they exit the house so I'd lean towards getting an antipark device off amazon. If a neighbor approached me about this, I would ask them what they expect me to do. A dog barks while entering a yard to let the other things in the yard to know it's coming. I wouldn't collar my dog for that.

It's a limited bark so it's NOT incessant? Plus One to the barking device. It is fox and deer season now, so all kinds of things to warn about in the dark. Neighbors should bring the dog in after a few minutes though.

"Limited bark"? "NOT incessant"? So to you it's only a serious issue if the dog never stops to take a breath, apparently. OP describes barking that goes on and off consistently between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. Just because it's not endlessunbrokenbarkbarkbarkbark does not mean it is not a nuisance deserving of a call to animal control. Those hours alone are reason to call. And this is happening night after night according to OP.

The owners are pretty much asking for someone to call animal control, if the owners really think everyone sleeps through a dog barking at 1 a.m. Some people really are that oblivious, though. "Golly, I figured it was the best time because everyone's asleep!" We had neighbors like that. Complete a$$es about the fact there are actually people who aren't going to sleep through repeated, staccato, sharp noises outdoors. People who have to do things like get up and effing work the next morning. No one should have to sleep in their own home with earplugs in or headphones on, FFS. OP, call animal control and be assertive.

This, thank you. Dog owners are out of control these days.

At 1:00 AM after it wakes you up?

They need to get it a bark collar. We use them on our dogs so they don't bother the neighbors.

Try the silencer someone posted earlier.

My neighbors have a dog door on their sliding glass doors so the dog can come and go as it pleases but ALWAYS BARKS when it's outside. Every 5-10 min it leaves to go outside and barks like crazy, then comes back inside. Does this ALL DAY. I hate it so much, it's driving me nuts.

a friend of mine tried one of those. She said someone slammed a door once and it register as a bark when the dog was sleeping. Poor thing got shocked while fast asleep. They stopped using it after that.

Dogs bark but dogs that bark excessively and all hours of the day or night are untrained and neglected, plain and simple.

Call animal control. I'm sure your county or city has noise ordinances and quiet hours like 11pm-7am.
