Child rages

We are dealing with this too with DD4.5

I've called the pediatrician 3x over the last 18m and they basically say at her age it can still be within the range of normal and we will reevaluate at kindergarten.

My degree is in child psych, I was a full time nanny for 15 years, tought preschool for 3 years, and am a mom of 3. She's out of the range of normal but every avenue I've pursued so far has shut the door and told me to return when she's older.

We are switching her to public school a year earlier than we had planned next year primarily for this reason. I'm also waiting on my personal therapist to send me a referral sheet for colleagues she recommends for children. I had major anxiety as a kid, but it manifested mostly in psychosomatic symptoms like headaches, stomaches, diarrhea.

My DH is also not as skilled and patient as I am (obviously with my background) dealing with her fits and it's really weighing heavily on our family unit.

+1. Do rages run in the family? Or ASD?

What parenting class was it?

Dr Schapiro’s class

Well for one, don't wait until they are 13.5 years old to get a neuropsych evaluation like I did!

Please see this rage as valuable. It is much better that a child express their anger than it is for them to hold it in. Be grateful you can know what they are feeling. Get a parenting coach to help them learn how to manage the anger before they start internalizing it with depression, low self esteem, etc.

Also make sure you are emotionally regulated too. If you get agitated or, heaven forbid, angry when your child is ragey, you're just making everything worse.

Look through checklists that screen ASD, ADHD, Anxiety, ODD... My kid is 9. So far the dx is anxiety and ODD. I also think ADHD. Anxiety meds helped a lot, but we still have rage. Therapy hasn't helped much. We need to change course, but still trying to figure it out.

Don't react. That isn't the way to get attention.

I'm worried we may get an ODD dx down the line. Can you share a bit about the earlier signs and at what age you noticed them?
