Height growth after first period?

Anonymous
My daughter grew 0.5 inches after her period. She ended up slightly shorter than me. I'm 5'4 while she is 5.3. It's been 2years now so she's most likely done.

It has nothing to do with the first period but whether the second growth spurt has occurred. After the second growth spurt (regardless when the period begins), kids don’t grow much anymore. A few inches at most (maybe two, who knows). I discussed that with an endocrinologist and he had never heard about this absurd timeline of the first period.

Wow exact same stats here except my DH is 6’1” and my DD is 5’3”. Turns 14 next month and I think her period is about a year away yet (just a guess). I think she will end up around my height 5’5”. Wears a size 8.5 shoe. DD doesn’t seem to care and is fine with her height (which is respectable as it is) and so are we- but it is fun to speculate! I’ll bet your DD ends up about your height as well. Seems more likely than not.

my DD is 14 and no period. She's 5'2. Short mom, tall dad. More than likely will end up 5'4 to 5'5. We are a family of late bloomers.

My daughter is 12.5 and got her period a year ago. She has grown .5 inches, from 5’7 to 5’7.5”. Her shoe size has stayed the same at size 9 for a while so I think she’s probably done.she has friends with the same or larger shoe size who are 5’3-5’5”.

Answers are all over the place. In other words, no one knows how much more your daughter will grow

First period tends to come with weight over 90 to 100lbs. That is usually. So tiny skinny girls tend to start later

Yes, but, on average, girls tend to grow 2 to 3 inches past their first period. So no one knows... but people can make educated guesses.

My dd is 13 and just got her first period. She’s grown a lot in the past year, maybe 4 inches, and she’s about 5’4” now. I expect her to grow another 2-4” given that I am 5’7 and dh is 6’3. Her feet are a size 9 as well.

For contrast, I got my period at 11 but I was already about 5’5 or 5’6, and I only grew a bit after. But she’s basically 2 years later than me in getting her period and her growth spurt.

What is the second growth spurt (vs the first?) and how can you tell them apart?

My DD grew about 3.5 more inches after getting her period at 11 (over a span of about 3 years).

My 13 yo DD got her period last fall and has only grown a half inch. I am 5'8" and her dad is 5'7". She is 5.0" with a size 6.5 foot. I keep waiting for that extra 1.5", but she is still the same size. Looks like she will be a petite adult.

WHat if the periods started and were super irregular. My DD started at 11 but she would have a few days of brown spotting and then nothing for four months. Then a few more days of brown spotting. Then nothing for months. It wasn’t till this last summer that she actually got what I would consider a regular period where they come every month or so.

In my observation, the first growth spurt for girls is around 9-10, and the big 2nd one is around age 12-13. It’s not just height, it’s usually obvious growth in frame size.

I grew 3 inches after my period at age 11. Overachieved my “predicted growth” by two inches.

DD has grown 1.5 inches since her period at age 13. Doctor thinks she’ll grow another .5 to 1 inch. This is based on DD’s historical growth curve. She’s been very consistent - kiuely has a bit more to go.
