This is fantasy, but A Discovery of Witches takes place at Oxford. The main characters are professors, though the classroom isn’t a huge part of the story. The Bodleian Library plays a significant role and the lab in which several characters work is important. In later books, the main character’s best friend at Yale becomes part of the story.

It’s very different and dark at times.

The Latinist

I didn’t love it, but the author actually wrote poems in ancient Greek for this book, which very much impressed me. It highlights the backstabbing competition that academia can be!

Ahhhh, one of my favorites. Boarding school, not college, but really fantastic coming of age story.

Batya Gur is one of my favorite authors. Each one of the early books in her mystery series focuses on a different, relatively closed community, with its own culture and often unspoken rules. The Literary Murder — a Critical Case is the second book in the series.
