How much money should a 30-year-old male be sending his parents per week?

Because he’s Asian.

I sent money home to my mom and grandma when they were alive. I am Black and not an immigrant. OP, I don’t think DCUM is your crowd for this question. They were all born on second and third base, and their parents did not need their help. They were very fortunate

Actually, we were the first generation to be paying into the system from the start of our work years, funding our elders who never had put into the system that did not yet exist. But at least Boomers respect their elders.

Respect is earned. You don’t get it for not dying before you’re old.

Why do you hate your parents? They did a number on you. Go lay on a couch and Seek help. Every other thread, you post this vitriol.

This. I didn't know a single 30 yo who sent money to their parents. Traditionally in this country, money flows down the generations.

If he hasn't had kids by 30, he's probably not going to.

What an odd statement. My Dh didn't have any kids until after he turned 30. We have four kids now.

I don't send my parents money. I make a lot of money so I bought my parents a 1M+ condo in McLean and let them live there. I also manage my parents' finances with a monthly budget of 15K/month. Their retirement pension, 401K, SS add up to be 5K/month so I contribute 10K/month. FWIW, I was born and raised in China, came to the US at the age of 12.

That is a really stupid thing to say. Nearly all the men my age that are fathers (and there are many) had kids after 30.

Troll post level 2.

Specified a gender. But, didn't specify a culture, which would at least provide context.
Specified money "per week." Why per week?
Specified an age, which has nothing to do with anything.

Ridiculous. Thank you all for playing.

I give them $500 per month to supplement their retirement and I am more than happy to do it. My kids will definitely help us financially in the future if we need it, but hope we won’t

Because they need it?

Your privilege is gobsmacking

DH and I, both white, expect to need to give our mom’s money routinely so they can meet their basic expenses at some point.

Now we just pay for one-time expensive things - like new appliances. We also pay for family vacations with them.

Our mother’s were both low-income workers and couldn’t save enough for retirement. Both also keep their expenses low, but they are one medical crisis away from needing financial help.

Very few people, boomers included, have pensions. The only people I know that have them worked for the government (including military), or are teachers, police or firefighters. Everyone else only had 401ks. There will be a lot of elderly needing assistance as a result.
