Don't act like 17th Street wasn't out of control during the height of the pandemic. I've lived in dupont since 1999. |
They used to have a Friday happy hour where some guy was inside giving out free turkey sandwiches. Of course you felt bad and tipped him a couple bucks. All he did was roast up a couple turkeys in the morning, then bring a few loaves of white bread, and he made a killing. He didn't even work for the bar -- they just let him come in as it got more people to come for the gimmick. |
NP here. I lived in DuPont from 2001 to 2008. Half a block from 17th. Walking from Q to CVS I always ran across at least four or five homeless people. When you went into CVS or Safeway or McDs there’d always be a homeless person or two at the door asking you to buy something. Did that change for a while to fewer homeless? Or were there even more homeless people in 2020 and beyond? |
Blockbuster video! |
Melody? |
Olsson’s. I still miss them. |
Cagney’s $1 pitcher nights |
Seriously! There are 3 just north of the circle and about 3 on the sides. There are a few by the 17th st Safeway. Not a temarbly different number than what was there when I lived there in the late 90s |
I met my husband at Buffalo Billiards in early 1998. Lived nearby in DuPont and loved it. I remember aimlessly wandering the streets trying to remember which one had the alley with the opening to Mister Days. |
Thanks! I was trying to remember the name of Buffalo Billiards. |
It's overrun. Grew up in Arlington in the 80s, mom worked at Dupont Circle and I remember all those stores mentioned. Dupont Circle today is looking pretty inner city. There are less homeless people on 125th in Harlem. |
Luna Cafe! And ESL! |
Yes!! Melody Records. |
And the nightclubs and bars in the Dupont area were awesome for dancing and meeting friends. Chaos, The Circle bar and Escandalo's. 😊🏳️🌈
And on Saturday afternoon I'd have lunch at the Boston Market 😊 |
I worked/lived there in the late aughts and totally idolized it as a bi preteen/teen living in a decidedly more staid neighborhood. Loved it. |
