Tips on renting in this day and age?

You missed Glenmont and Wheaton. Good houses for rent in the neighborhoods that surround the metro.

Thank you! Interesting read. There are dozens of corrective actions- I don't see how DCHA will be able to undertake to do all of this without a massive hiring effort if they can barely function now with the staff it has.

The condos are a mixture of older residents, young professionals and some families. Also Pooks Hill Road - the Promenade condo building in Bethesda.

Yeah I have seen these online, but they look frankly depressing in terms of the surroundings. The buildings and the schools and proximity to metro looks great, but otherwise a depressing neighborhood!

Go out there and visit sometime. Get a bit away from the metro station, walk around Rockville town center and a bit out into the surrounding areas. It’s a nice town with a good feel. Those online photos make everything look depressing

I have rented to section 8 tenants and they all have had additional family members move in to the unit
The way they get everything you can think of out of government benefits is revolting

I’m confused. Why did you say “not suburban” and then bring up Bethesda and Rockville? They are both the very definition of suburban.

Downtown Bethesda and Rockville are full blown urban

It is IB for Falls Church City schools (which are excellent) and less than a mile from East Falls Church metro (I think they have a free shuttle - at least they used to). Also very close to 66. Sounds like your kids are older, but had friends who used to live there and there are a TON of kids that all play together in the courtyard after school and in the summer (I’m talking like 25-30 kids, seemed awesome if you have kids in ES). They advertise 1BRs at $1800 so I imagine a 2BR would be in budget.

I cannot find info on an apartment complex in FCC called Falls Glen. Where is it located exactly?

Grosvenor/North Bethesda & Pooks Hill condos are nowhere near the Rockville town center. I guess they're somewhat close to Pike & Rose, but it definitely requires getting in a car and driving. OP is right that there's no much there in the immediate vicinity.

Oh. I thought they were referring to Rockville condos in general. There are a number close to the town center. For example Hamilton House

OP here. Yes, I was thinking about Rockville right near the metro.

Arlington rents seem really high? And I like old town but aiming for better schools.

Maybe that poster meant The Glen. That building is in the Fairfax County part of Falls Church, not City of Falls Church. It sounds like the poster didn’t have kids when he or she lived there, so they might not have known the difference.
