More and more dogs at Costco

Anonymous
Dog owners, just be responsible please. Don’t give dogs a bad name because you’re a bad owner.

I watched a ~20 pound dog poop in Tyson’s recently near Barnes & Noble / Clyde’s and just walk away. Don’t be that person in Costco / Tyson’s or elsewhere.

I mean, I already have to deal with my husband picking up every little thing and wanting to buy it ... I just can't imagine dealing with him AND our 3 labs at the same time. We wouldn't be able to get 2 steps in the door without people wanting to pet them or one of them wanting to go slobber over someone or one of them wanting to pee. No. Just no.

+1 I have had dogs all my life except for college, and I do not understand why people need to take them everywhere. I’m thrilled that my kids are finally old enough that I don’t have to take them to Costco with me, why on earth would I do this?

We have a puppy that freaks out if not in the room with us so I get it to a point but I wouldn't take the dog as ours get so much attention its annoying as I cannot get anything done or often just a walk without someone wanting to pet or play with her.

+1. Great news. Thanks, OP.

No - you can't.

After this thread yesterday I called my local Costco today, and they do allow dogs. So yes, I can and I will.

But why?

Because they want to.

I think forcing a dog into Costco is a form of animal abuse. The stores are large, crowded, and loud. Traumatic for any animal.

I’ve seen this too! Plus dogs sitting on barstools drinking from bowls on the counter. It’s so gross.

I found that owners who bring their dog everywhere are often super lazy and don't really walk their dog otherwise. So they think bringing the animal to a crowded supermarket or restaurant counts as exercise. It is selfish and inconsiderate to both the dog and other customers.

If you think dogs are bad, I saw a woman with a guinea pig at Costco. I could not believe my eyes.

It's illegal. These people should not be allowed in with dogs unless it is a seeing eye dog only.

Ew. Leave the dog at home!

I call BS.

It is against FEDERAL LAW to have live animals on the premise wherever food is sold. There are minor exceptions for things like fish tanks besides service dogs.

Technically, coffee shops and all restaurants are not allowed to let dogs into their establishments because they are selling food. Dogs are absolutely not allowed in grocery stores, period. What Costco said yes? I would like to know so that I can lodge a complaint that that Costco is violating federal law.

I was at a sushi restaurant and someone brought their pit bull in and gave him a bowl of rice to eat under the table. Dog was eating right out of the restaurant’s bowl. Then they gave the dog water in another restaurant bowl.

So? They have these things called dishwashers th that clean dishes!

You should cite that federal law for us.

Are you under the impression that restaurants don’t wash the bowls? Commercial dishwashers are required to maintain a utensil surface temperature of at least 160 degrees to clean and sanitize.

People bring them everywhere where I live (not in the DC area). Grocery stores, malls, you name it they bring them in. People seem to be more accepting of it here-no one cares.

I never take mine because she's a lunatic and would be all over the place but I like seeing dogs out and about.

So? Restaurants do wash their dishes between customers. Or are you the poster who is grossed out by the dog bowls going in the dishwasher?
