Hosting an important business acquaintance at our house. But I can't cook.

Maybe fancier isn’t the goal. Inviting someone (and spouse/partner) into your home is a gesture that suggests a professional relationship might become more social/personal. And, depending on where the guests are coming from, it can be a welcome respite from hotel rooms and restaurants. Plus, you aren’t at the mercy of other peoples’ schedules/constraints. Of course you lose the advantage of that if things aren’t going well, lol!

Is there a place a short walk or quick drive away that you can take them?

cocktails in your house. Dinner out and then nightcap back at your place.

Advise a catered meal and to actively avoid any implication that you cooked it. Am assuming you are female, do not cook for business acquaintances. Ever.
